"So that's why they call you a digger. You dig."
I use these uploads to talk about different things that came to mind while working on the remaster. One is the removal of the word "digger"
Long ago, when Pure light was fresh and new and the internet hadn't been completely ruined by US politics, 'digger' was literally just that; an insult to the miners of the third-class district. Oh, how innocent little young me was. Little did I know that soon Americans, who think everything is about them and their cultural issues, would complain to me that digger = nigger. I still remember those old comment(s?) and my subsequent annoyance. Thankfully ten years ago people didn't constantly look for things to be upset about and carried on. But today things have sadly regressed. Paranoid, you say? Yet I've seen people freak out over less.
I usually point blank refuse to alter my language to fit the needs of the irrational, hyper-sensitive. But in this day and age, with our own makeshift social credit score- I mean cancel culture, I'd rather die on a hill that I actually care about. An unimaginative insult in a fan comic is not worth potentially having to deal with harpies on Twitter for an afternoon. It's much easier to go through the minimal effort of writing the script neatly around it, as I did in chapter 1.
So why even talk about it here? Because I have the feeling some people might remember and take notice of this particular change in the script. I'm not quietly removing anything. I am just... tired.
On a lighter note, I think this page is where the remaster really starts to do its job. More saturated colors, improved depth perception, the usual face fixes. No major changes yet but a distinct improvement all the same.
