The Orc Captain

Im playing a half orc in my new DnD campaign and I may have chosen it because of this little description from DnD Beyond:

The warchief Mhurren roused himself from his sleeping-furs and his women and pulled a short hauberk of heavy steel rings over his thick, well-muscled torso. He usually rose before most of his warriors, since he had a strong streak of human blood in him, and he found the daylight less bothersome than most of his tribe did. Among the Bloody Skulls, a warrior was judged by his strength, his fierceness, and his wits. Human ancestry was no blemish against a warrior—provided he was every bit as strong, enduring, and bloodthirsty as his full-blooded kin. Half-orcs who were weaker than their orc comrades didn’t last long among the Bloody Skulls or any other orc tribe for that matter. But it was often true that a bit of human blood gave a warrior just the right mix of cunning, ambition, and self-discipline to go far indeed, as Mhurren had. He was master of a tribe that could muster two thousand spears, and the strongest chief in Thar.

I've been sloshing my way through "Crescent City" By SJM. I had to switch from kindle to audiobook because it's just too massive for me to read in the little downtime I have. I'm such a slow reader and theres so much detail and world building in this book, I just don't have the time I'd like to to get lost in it. It's not really the kind of book you can pick up, read a page or two then have to put down when you're called back to reality.

I needed another, easy book for my eyeballs to steal excerpts from when I have free moments in the day so, I downloaded "Haunting Adeline" Which I have no idea what its about but, it came highly recommended by fellow smut readers. In retrospect, I should have nabbed one of these steamy,  orc themed, pulp romance numbers I've got on my list. I'm a little nervous about the trigger warnings, this one has more than I've read before, but hopefully the hot sex makes up for it. I don't like being sad and sometimes non-consensual situations make me very nauseous. I'm hoping for a skeleton sex scene? I have no idea what it's about but thats what keeps it exciting!

Luckily the romance reviewers and meme-ists I follow on instagram are cryptic enough where nothing has been spoiled so far for books I want to read. "Fourth Wing" is still a void of mystery as I crawl out of my skin waiting for my friends to get their copies so we can start our book club. I can't wait to dive in!

Anyway, this piece was way more fun to sketch. I guess Im happy with the way it came out mood- wise. but I have to start considering what my simplified comic style is going to be. I've never been a painter, If I had endless time I think I would have loved to delve into the mysteries of light and form. But this modern demand for content has forced me to offer a bastardized simplification of what I see behind my eyelids.

Luckily sketching always fulfills me. I think I need to find a way to convey light and mood while maintaining the emotional gestures of my sketches. Ill have to start messing around with it. For now, I did have a lot of fun coloring this. It was a bit out of my comfort zone which is why I'm a little apprehensive about it, but, I hope you like it regardless!
