I found a blog called dadbodcollective.com that has an article about the mall called "The Little Mall that Couldn't.". The first line gives a little history , including the mall's former name, when it opened and who it was originally named after.: "Canton Centre Mall formerly known as Mellett Mall, opened in 1965 as an open-air shopping center. The Mall’s history goes far back beyond 1965 though, way back to the year 1926. The name Mellett was in honor of a Canton newspaper journalist named Donald Ring Mellett who was murdered by the Canton Mob way back in ’26." While the article goes on longer the , the writer couldn't seem to find too much more info about it than that. He says that it closed in the early 2000s, but doesnt mention the exact year.
