The red painted handrails and salmon pink and varnished pine pillar cladding remind me of the Dead Mall Series. The occupancy rates are probably around 75%, but a lot of non-shops and 'experience' shops feature, presumably owned and run by the mall's owners. I had a good nostalgia trip showing the (now barriered off) old seating areas in the glass atrium with views of the city where we used to nurse a single coffee for 3 hours so we could while the winter afternoon away with friends. The ceilings were dusty and a little water stained in places, but the accessible areas were all clean and tidy and the place feels safe. The cinema's faded too, but still reasonably clean and tidy. I wonder when or if these places will ever receive a facelift now, or whether they'll continue to slowly dilapidate? At £5 for a cinema ticket and £7.50 for a "VIP" ticket, I can't imagine they have much revenue to push back into capital improvements.
