It's similar to Trump wanting to take Greenland, Canada, and the Panama Canal. It seems Trump wants to divide the world into sections which will be controlled by Putin, XI Ping (China) and himself. I don't know this to be a fact, but it is how it looks to be headed that way. You are right about the Trump MAGA movement being a cult. That is EXACTLY what it is, unfortunately.
