I know I'm late but I'm sorry to hear about your caterpillars. I got some tomato horn worms MONTHS ago and one just emerged, but his wings never unfolded properly so now he just chills and occasionally (I assume) unfurls his 2-inch long proboscis to drink honey water from a paper towel. Still waiting on the other one that didn't perish in the cocoon stage. If you want some easy bugs that breed pretty quickly and will eat literally anything you give them, I recommend isopods. You can just get them from under logs if you'd prefer free ones, and sometimes pet stores carry them if you don't care about fancy morphs. They're darling little friends.
