Chapter 39

Now with fresh tables made from the scales of an HTML dragon.

Edit: V2 with some changes for clarity as the intended sequence didn't come across for some. The _changes version has the modifications in blue if you want to know what is different.

Moar!

M van Dongen

They also dont require much training

Can't wait for the next chapter! Also hope he gets platemail armour, aswell as a spear. the spear I feel would really help keep enemy's at a distance while still in range of his auras.

Decending into a hellish hole in the ground to fight creatures of pure darkness isn't a real adventure to you? :P

L Pedersen

It has literally everything to do with your complaint because there is a huge difference between say chucking someone 10 meters (two-ish storey’s) and chucking them 50 meters. If he thought he would be chucking him closer to the first one, it makes perfect sense he wasn’t worried about him landing initially.

HornsOfTheseus

Between [Channel Mastery] and [Aura Synergy] there isn't any reason not to have them both at rank 10.

Garrett

As I said, calculating distance had nothing to do with my complaint. Velocity doesn't necessarily follows laws of physics anyway.

8Psycho

"Changes for CLARITY" =)

Loipers

I have an idea of the general direction I want things to go in. Some big plot points and such.

SenescentSoul

Thanks for another chapter. I've got to say, with the pacing, I'm wondering if you have a conclusion in mind, and how long will it take to get there? He's growing now, but I assume he'll go on real adventures later on

ZaA

Thanks for the _changes version, that's very useful. And I like the changes themselves as well

The changes make things a lot better

Intended sequence is: > Reach main chamber 1, clear of slimes > Jamus, Val, and Carten leave Ameliah, Rain, and Tallheart while they go to take care of the other signal Rain detected in a side tunnel > Rain follows after a little while, leaving Tallheart and Ameliah >Others return to main chamber 1, everyone goes down the large tunnel to main chamber 2. There are no monsters. >Jamus, Val, and Carten go down the tunnel towards the crumbled wall, leaving Rain, Tallheart, and Ameliah to have a conversation >Ameliah and Rain leave to join the others, Tallheart stays behind. I did a quick readthrough, and the sequence is more or less there. I’ll go in and see if I can make it clearer, as more than one person has gotten confused.

SenescentSoul

I wonder whether [Velocity] would make you accelerate faster when falling...

Elaborate

My expectation is that Ameliah will need to pull everyone's fat out of the fire; she's obviously a Big Deal, and I'm guessing she's the highest-leveled one in the group. If the shit hits the fan, she will step up and take leadership. I think she's saving up some brutally honest feedback for after they get out, but she knows it would only get serious consideration after they realize they screwed up. But yeah, Rain ought to come with some more halfway-decent suggestions (only to be ignored by his eager team-mates, of course).

Elaborate

@8Psycho There are plenty of not idiots who didn’t take/pay attention to high school physics. It isn’t that unreasonable for someone who’s primary job is construction to think height will be linear with velocity and not the square.

HornsOfTheseus

What about Ameliah? She is stronger than all of them?

RanaSuilep

From Janus, Val and Carten's perspective, they probably aren't expecting a huge combat contribution from Rain; so, they're not splitting the party, they're leaving the non-combatants behind a bit while they scout ahead.

Imp

I am not that upset at the MC, more at everyone else. The last time they were here that hard core lady kept things tight. Now they are all faffing about and running off on their own. They knew Tallheart wanted to find metals. Waiting 15 minutes at most doesn’t seem that big a deal. Espescially since Ameliah is their powerhouse in the team. I honestly don’t get get Jamus letting things be like this when he has experience compared to Val. Val has said he has had a number of life and death experiences and is level 5 still. Honestly surprised someone like Ameliah hasn’t told him off for his recklessness. I honestly expect at least one person to die horribly.

RanaSuilep

One does not need to be genius for this, being not-retarded is enough, no matter if he calculate height of jump or not. Mechanics of velocity is another thing, they are quite bizarre. Not only it negates Air resistance, but also gravity in some bizarre way.

8Psycho

I was quite baffled too. Even if mc has never adventured(even tho he did once), he still played d&d or something, he should be clear on this.

8Psycho

Ameliah than said that she will stay with Tallheart(when they were talking about mining metals), than they followed group anyway, then Ameliah left Tallheart behind? There is a lot of issues.

8Psycho

You would think that the party of "experienced" adventurers would avoid the mistakes that the noob party made in the first episode of goblin slayer.

Call0013

Rain's party are all really failures as adventurers. 1. They split the party. Never do this. 2. They didn't share the details of their abilities with each other, so they can't back each other up or know what to expect. 3. They haven't chosen a leader to make decisions in a crisis. 4. They ignore Rain's warning that he isn't ready. 5. They haven't trained as a group or discussed roles and expectations. It's one thing to be relaxed on the road and quite another to so blatantly underestimate what is effectively a dungeon. They better hope it's all just level 5 monsters down there, because with this level of recklessness it's like they're asking to be wiped out.

11037

Oh, so Carten is speaking from experience when he said that jumping off mountains is fun.

Neisus

Yea I was sorta thinking the same think after a second read

Raveve

Isn't there a disconnect when they enter the mine? Tallheart and Ameliah decide to stay before the tunnel then later they're there anyway? I'm a little confused.

L Pedersen

The advantage of having both Immolate and Refrigerate is kinda that he could have each at different levels just in case yeah. It's not like he needs both to be level 6, very little use for that. I do think it was less that 'he didn't level anything' and more that he thought "between levelling offensive auras and velocity, the latter is going to help me more". I think he is correct there.

Arkeus

Rain didn’t fail to realize that Carten would need to land. He just didn’t do the math in his head of how high it would send him (mgh=1/2mv^2). Remember he wasn’t some super genius back on earth so that wouldn’t have been his first thought.

HornsOfTheseus

Very disappointed Rain made Carten jump without comprehending that he will need to land, that is unbelievably stupid. Also, about auras speed of propagation, is it the same for every aura? Does detection and velocity do that too, or are they instantaneous?

8Psycho

Okay chapter. The mechanic questions cutoff is getting a bit much. Also if he is concerned about hurting others he can use Val’s min health, at level 5 is probably 200 to 400. With attack auras he can reasonably output 300 damage and his team would live. Val did survive before during the kin attack. Also disappointing he never powered leveled his attack auras the day before. He can burn through all his mana in seconds with them, only needs to do it twice to max level them. I figured he would have maxed leveled at least one for the lair and not hope for a day off.

RanaSuilep

Love the ominous cliffhanger there. Keep it up

Backfire

I don't know who to love more, the gentle and caring Tallheart or the playful and oaf Carten

Vydashal

Great chapter

Raveve

Tallheart is love. Not sure I like the darker blue boxes. I think you probably could have given a hint in chapter 37/38 that they would arrive the day later. Or you had and I missed it.

Arkeus

What kind of breath do HTML dragons have? 404 error AoE?

Imp

Good stuff, good ending
