Chapter 55

I might tweak some numbers in this one. Still working on balance. You can help by speculating wildly as you normally do.

Errata: 'Vision' on the Statistics panel is now the more general 'Perception'. It has always been like that *waves hands*.

He literally talked about it with elf chick two chapters ago when she asked what his goals were and why he wanted to get stronger

Tommy Littlefield

Sucks that you don't like real main characters that act within realm of reason then..

Tiz

this story went from being in my top 5 to considering dropping my sub. can't stand such idiotic and naive mc's

I just want to see him going around town looking like a lich king from wow spreading cold

Shiro Fuun

That would be cool but maybe he can only manipulate his own mana inside/outside his body? Maybe we'll see a skill that'll let you interfer with enemy spells later. Null-magic aura....

L Pedersen

If force ward aura(and any defence aura by extent) works on soul, then this explains ignoring mana-sucking effect of any metal armor. Also, can Rain manipulate Mana in incoming fireball? Like Jedi force

reji

rain saying he wants to awaken everyone seems like came out of nowhere

Your Posts page doesn't work. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=21589642/posts should show all your posts but it just does nothing. I'm guessing its because of the user? part because other ones work but they are all just names.

Findell

To a large extent because the foreshadowing was lacking. Everything was advertised as a nice run on a new dungeon, typical adventure storyline. Now it’s suggested that they instead did a bandit/thieving raid.

Chymor

Killing random people is a dangerous, stupid thing to do, even from amoral practical standpoint. If you're found out it means war with whoever sent him, and possible outcast from civilization entirely. Unless Rain is planning to start a bandit group, then killing a random guard is not the right decision. There's still hope for getting away, and if you fail then diplomacy is an option. If you kill him then you still have to run, but if you're caught then it means an almost guaranteed fight to the death.

I honestly thought Val would just blow the scouts head off. He is impulsive and it would have made sense. The arguments with no base facts or background being shared is what makes this chapter a bunch of filler. Ask yourself this, what have we learned about the world that makes the characters act the way they are and why doesn’t Rain wonder about this. The early chapters had Rain thinking about things, now it is all moralizing and no thinking.

RanaSuilep

I was looking forward to some character growth but I feel like everyone is getting dumber as the story goes on. Also the characters act as if you've picked 1 personality trait for each of them and just dialed it up to 11, there's no depth there and it makes them more irritating than anything, just chill out a bit.

Why is everyone so annoyed that stuff is happening in the story? :S

L Pedersen

They aren't being dumb though, though they probably shouldn't have broken the lair.

Pocket Rikimaru Thanatos

The armor and Rain's class is cool but I feel like everyone is getting dumber as the story goes along... Why didn't Carten kill Stint like he said he would if someone tried to kill him few chapters earlier? Rain's thought process is just too stupid, why does he want to give everyone superpowers? Why is Stint included in the group? Someone that literally attempted to murder a team member earlier that day? There's being naive and there's being ridiculously stupid, and Rain's starting to look more and more like the latter, so much so that I don't think he even deserves to be alive/survive in this world.

Gio

Damn. Hatred of royals does not meant hatred of nobility. Besides, the only hints about Val is that his family was destroyed by the empire so it's most likely a more personal beef with the empire. Nobody hired Lavarro specifically, it was a request placed with the guild. Anyone could have picked it up. Lavarro was just looking for missions to help her daughter learn. The only people in their group who seemed morally opposed to killing Stint and leaving him in a ditch was Rain and to a lesser degree Ameliah. Why blindfold someone when you're probably gonna silence someone anyhow? Doesn't seem like 14 year olds to me. Could Carten have acted differently? Sure. Did he act out of character? Not at all. As for Rain being naive, he's still adjusting to his new world, aside from his run-in with the blue bastard he's actually been pretty sheltered in terms of things that will force him to question his modern morals, but I'm sure he'll have to make some hard choices at some point. Take a breath.

Meh chapter, gets a 2, for all the characters grabbing the idiot ball. It felt like a whole conversation was missing. Instead of Rain acting like he is 8, why not ask why a noble is a big deal? Also with the thought of awakening everyone.....that would be like giving everybody an invisible gun, no thought on the consequences. At the start of this story, Rain actually thought about things and tried to learn. Now it is all assumptions, 8 year old morality, and no one explaining their reasoning. Rain could have asked why nobles are a big deal, their rights and laws, Amelia is a silver plate which is a big deal and should smooth things over. Instead we get people arguing they should kill the scout but no explanation why the noble learning about them is bad. Just more 8 year old morality. The math, skill, and inventory was okay, but we get the upset teammate not wanting to explain. That gets old, when I read out the conversations they take a couple of minutes at most. If the conversation was an hour long or there were repeat questions I could understand, but armor is Tallhearts bread and butter and he acts annoyed with Rain talking to him, it gets old fast. That is why I give a 2, the characters feel like characticures or 8 year olds instead of adults.

RanaSuilep

Positive: inventory system seems nice Negative: Rain too naive, on border of being idiot; Carten forget in second frustration about Amelia and his own character at all; Val forget about hatred of royals; impossible that they doesn't understand there will be research about mine situation (after someone hire top adventurers to just get magic picks); why they doesn't blind capture man? Why they show Tallheart to them at all? Wtf is going on, all peoples in this world is 14 years old from non-medvial era?

reji

There must be some seriously overpowered people if by killing delvers you can get what they gained by breaking cores. Maybe there is a limit ? Overall a really cool chapter, I like that there is a bit of urgency at the end. Thanks !

CentaureHeart

The mana immunity really depends a lot on how saturation really works. It’s listed as mp, which would make it extremely effective and avoid the damage scaling from focus. If it was just damage it would be much easier for mages to handle. And since Jamus lightening ball hurt Carten during the first delve it definitely leaks damage regardless of saturation. So there’s a lot of uncertainty still. If the saturation is filled at 1mp per damage dealt, the results are much more reasonable.

Chymor

Yhe if he can strip the mine then he can get all the metal he needby walking through an forest there is some metal everywhere and if he can strip a mine he can get what he need from the walk. Also why is this the first time this is even mentioned it aounds lile they knew what they where doing was iligal so why stay at all? If it is not iligal why leave the metal. Also they are leaving evidence that they did steal something and taking the scout from kidnapped to acomplis.

Håvard

Good chapter one of my favourites so far. So going from the other side, what does it mean for Rain attacking people wearing metal armour? Assuming that it counts damage done rather than mana spent to fill up the absorption. Then his first 50-100 DPS will do nothing to someone in metal armour - exactly like it worked with Tallheart and refrigerate. It will also take a large amount to fill an enemies saturation. More than he can easily put out currently, and will always buy enemies time. So armour is effective against him. Going by his dual with Val it is possible for a mage to overload metal in a spot area. But this is not something Rain can do with auras as they spread - another reason auras aren't normaly viewed well. Seems fairly balanced as auras can be used to hit all the eneimies armour at once. Hmm mages must(?) have some counters to metal armour. High tiered skills?, indirect attacks? or simply spot attacks?. Rains armour is no doubt much better than most, and his survivability has just increased massively. Impacts, weights and grappling are still issues - not to mention high end armour piercing arrows. Wonder if mages rule in moster hunting but knights and archers in war? Armies and guards must have counters, at least assuming Rains armour is not hughly excetional and needs specilsts.

payforthat

The comments about stripping the mine seemed... Weird. Unless mines work incredibly different in this world. Ore veins tend to be kilometers long and has at least decades worth of metal. A single person mining, even with their abilities, wouldn't come even close to "stripping" the mine. It likely wouldn't even be noticeable. Heck, if they leave all the metal behind like that, then it sounds like this Lady should actually make a very nice profit on them having been there, seeing as they took care of everything from mining the stone to refining the ore. Their paranoia seems unwaranted, unless people are assholes for the sake of being asholes.

Swinter

That isn't an allergy to milk Carten, that is lactose intolerance. Thanks for the chapter.

Joshua Little

Alright given the way armor works in story it seems his survivability has skyrocketed now. He can take more hits than I thought he'd be able to. Urge to complain about lack of heal...faalllliiinnnng ...RISINGGG....... ffffffaaaallllliiiiinnnngggg

tibbish

Awesome, Mana manipulation seems pretty cool!
