2022-01-16 20:41:29 +0000 UTCI meant to post this last chapter, but am I the only one who thinks Mariah’s mom is the one who cut the ship in half? She’s alive isn’t she? And she seems capable of cutting a ship in two with her force powers. Last we heard, she was captured by the Watch, but it’d make sense to have her work off her debt to the DKE by fighting the Adamant Empire. Other’s from Fel Sadanis have resettled to Three Cliff’s as well, so Lavarro may be more willing to help there, in the hopes of seeing/protecting Mahria.

His propensity for overestimating himself and underestimating the enemy is legendary enough to require it to be christened with his name. In other news, I wonder how Captain Bakal (barge king) stacks up in size to Halgrave (in armor since rain hasn’t seen him without)? I don’t need their three sizes or anything but wondering their relative heights (Bakal probably is “wider” than Halgrave since Rain commented in a “look at this absolute unit of a man”). Of course golem Halgrave doesn’t count either since that is a skill.

While he wants to live and die there, I wonder if he would be motivated to move if Adamant comes to mess things up again and there is an Ascension fleet offering passage (may just become a story trope that every place they pass has people joining them in official or refugee ways)? If not for his sake then the sake of his crew? Like maybe the aeromancer sees a fleet (that is likely to have enough silver, if not gold to topple this place with ease) coming and they leave just in time to make chasing them not worth it like the last Adamant commander did. That would be another for the history books of the Adamant empire failing to kill a chaotic threat (with more potential than strength) that will grow into a force to change the very world. It is good that they have already learned first hand some things from this guy about how higher levels are more cautious when making a move due to the consequences, especially if there isn’t enough gain to offset the damage (much less the chance of a loss). Would be nice to get a veteran like him to join but unlikely unless it is the last minute evacuation (or convincing they have potential to offer a better life and/or stoke his fire for one last voyage on a large fleet).
