As the wife of a retired retired military officer, I have to tell you that even my hubby, who is very judgmental, appreciates your thoughtful videos. You provide information and perspective that isn't widely available to Americans through our MSM. Thank you!
2020-01-06 17:24:03 +0000 UTCIs there a way to watch Beau's videos outside of YouTube?
2020-01-06 17:16:50 +0000 UTCHi Beau! Thank you so much for all you do! Your talent for being able to address "supposedly" partisan topics & then confronting those issues with straight forward facts, a common sense approach to digesting those facts, appealing to what should be our innate humanity towards others, weaved within a story-telling monologue is remarkable. And I believe your messages NEED to reach a larger field. I believe your videos reflect the best form of journalism by asking your audience to constructively think for themselves by not only presenting the facts, but also not shying away from pointing out that "alternative facts" are just BS. That by NOT validating those lies as 'just' a "difference of opinion" between conservatives & liberals; your work as a gatekeeper to the truth is not only paramount, but also tragically lacking among the majority of the media in these times. With all that being said, I want to tell you how I stumbled upon your page & offer a constructive critique on what I think may help to get your messages out to a larger audience without really changing your format nor sacrificing any of your integrity. With YouTube, I listen mostly to liberal and/or progressive voices, which usually helps to keep my feed free of right-wing propaganda & political conspiracy theorists distorting reality to protect the racist demagogue currently residing in Our White House. But YouTube's platform also incentives tribalism & "click bait" headlines irregardless of its actual content. God forbid I unknowingly click on one of those far right videos only for my feed to be bombarded the next few days with even more demented videos of the same kind. YouTube's algorithm can quickly take one down the rabbit hole of extremism, but it also helped me discover independent media such as yourself, David Pakman, etc. But, as fore mentioned, one has to be careful. So, before I knew what your channel was about, I had a couple of your videos occasionally popping up on my feed. I remember quickly dismissing your videos as I judged your gaze directly looking at the camera poised in front of the inside of a garage or shed (?) as your backdrop. However, in my defense, as even you have pointed out, your initial appearance can come across as that of a "Typical Trump Supporter". Though I know better now, your appearance made me incredibly cautious of your channel's intentions. But more than your looks, your video's titles didn't give me a clear idea as to what your videos may even be about. I continued to ignore YouTube's suggestions on your videos for a couple of weeks. I fear if I had been more savvy with YouTube's restrictions back then, I would have immediately just blocked your channel from coming on my feed again without of giving it another thought. But I was a YouTube newbie back then so instead I just continued to skim past your videos without much pause. Eventually though, one of your video's titles piqued my curiosity, "Let's talk about what it's like to be a black person in...". I wasn't sure what you would say, but my biases felt you would probably run along the lines of hateful rhetoric while boasting the teachings of how great MAGA Country is. F*-ed up assumption, I know, but it's unfortunately not a far stretch on YouTube's platform. However this time, instead of outright ignoring your video, I opted to first Google "Beau of the Fifth Column". After a quick read of your bio, and now deeming you "safe to click on", I proceeded to watch your video. But, whatever I was now expecting from you could not have prepared me for the raw truth you shared in that video. I know this is a long post, but I want you to know what an Absolutely Profound effect you had on me through that first video. Ethnicity & culturally, I am Samoan. My father/sperm donor is Caucasian, leading me to "look" more Caucasian than anything else. But I associate myself as a VERY proud Samoan - through & through. My cultural heritage very much shaped who I am today. Also, with my understandings of genetics & my upbringing of respect towards all others, I had always found racism to be the stupidest forms of fear mongering being projected within any society. However, even as "understanding" as I thought I was towards the reality of the racism that exists in America; through your voice, I realized, that Fundamentally, I could NEVER "understand" what it was like to be a black man/woman living in "this" America. When you asked your non-black audience to consider how much of who they are is because of their cultural heritage, pointing out not just the physical crimes committed by slavery, but the stripping away of a slave's identity & what that entailed; how that systematic racism has, and continues to stain the ideals of which Our Constitution decries; how even as I could "understand" the numbers of the continued injustices, I couldn't possibly "understand" what African Americans have lost or live through on a day to day basis; I have forever been changed through your shared insightfulness. In all the years, in all my education of America's racism, I had never heard of it talked about like that. You pointed out that whatever self-perceived "woke-ness" any non-black Americans thought they had, that it would never amount to anything unless we confronted the ugly truths of the continuing costs of slavery. After watching that video several more times I then spent the next many hours watching every single video you had posted. And look, I'm just talking about the first video of yours that I watched, but I have had many thought provoking & self reflections towards most of your videos. Not only do you ask us to consider how one sees this World through identifying problems, you present common sense solutions, and ask us to consider what We can do to make this an America that reflects Our ideals. You have opened my perspective on a whole variety of issues, made me less jaded in the failings of Our Democracy through encouraging my own activism, and I want to sincerely thank you & your family for ALL of the above. I know I can't be the only one that you have affected as such, and I only wish for your messages to spread as far as they can. Because of that, if I could make one suggestion, I would ask you to consider phrasing the titles of your videos a little differently. I believe that once people give you the opportunity to hear what you have to say, initially listen with an open mind; that like me, they can only be changed for the better. Adding "Let's talk about..." at the beginning of your title typically hides the rest of your whole title unless you click on it. I suggest cutting that part out of the beginning. Also, I think it would help if your titles used just one or two declarative words that quickly present your stance & strike a cord of controversy. For example instead of "Let's talk about the America I remember...", maybe something like "Is America really the Greatest?". Because instead of a new viewer wondering your position, very likely judging you on your looks, & possibly bypassing your video; you are saying through your title the summary context of your position. Also, since spreading your actual message is far more important, & humans are more likely to click on the sensational, I think employing these tactics are not underhanded with all that is at stake. Again, as example, instead of me seeing your title as "Let's talk about Earth Overshoot Day and what co...", maybe try "Ignoring Climate Change is the Best way to ensure Socialism". Instead of "Let's talk about snapping up cost of living diff...", maybe trying "Taking food stamps from a hungry child-what it really says about us". Anyways, it's just a thought ;)

2019-07-19 20:49:57 +0000 UTCI don't know much about Patreon, but this also looks like a great place to mirror Facebook posts for those of us who still refuse to drink that koolaid.

2019-07-19 11:15:42 +0000 UTCHappy to help. You've helped me open my mind and look at things differently. I hope we can make a difference
2019-07-16 20:57:38 +0000 UTCThe way you present yourself, in your garage, with your accent, you being you, is extremely relatable (at the level of powerfully disarming) to my Right wing family and friends. I really appreciate the work you do. You articulate concepts that coming from a Left-wing lib like myself would never be received in the same way. You get them to stop screaming and for a moment to listen. Thank you and keep up the great work.
2019-07-16 20:44:05 +0000 UTCHopefully we can get to doing something good with somebody that knows what they're doing. I day lets get some kids out of cages.
