In that classic fantasy sense, the idea is that they are little cave-dwelling tribal goobers that revere dragons sometimes to the point of worship, but as time has progressed, they have gone through different interpretations. Many recent iterations have depicted them as small, almost goblin-like reptiles (sometimes with fur accents) (optimally short stacks with thick tails), often with personalities larger than the body that contains them.
