Talking Simpsons - The Way We Weren't

"She was the prettiest girl I'd ever seen... Uh, until I met your mother—who made that girl look like a Godzilla made of garbage!" - Homer Simpson

In yet another canon-defying flashback episode, we head to summer camp, where many established characters somehow know each other despite their differing ages and backgrounds. As Homer and Marge weave their different takes on this tale of the past, it's revealed the two actually met as children in a series of convoluted events that mostly check out—unless you're an insane fan obsessed with continuity. But those people certainly wouldn't be listening to THIS podcast.

I remember this episode being worse than it was, which is... a relief after some of the absolute stinkers we've had lately. It's still pretty dumb with the whole Super Crazy No-Way School of it all and the unnecessary Marge drama, but it's relatively inoffensive and as you guys discussed does feel like they actually put in some work to make sure this didn't just retcon and shit all over past episodes (even if it's for selfish reasons on Al Jean's part). It's a far cry from the quality of Simple Simpson (DEFINITELY the season standout) but watching it was fairly enjoyable.

You have to cut them a little slack on that first John K couch gag. They did ask him for it in 1999, but he didn’t deliver it until 2011.

I sometimes get fresh salmon but frozen salmon is often just as good. Not sure what's happening with yours. - Bob

Eating the same thing for dinner every night sounded a little crazy to me at first, but I can see the appeal. Having to pick out and cook dinner every night is a pain. You can cook salmon and broccoli in like 20 minutes too. My question to Bob is, are you going to the grocery store to get fresh salmon every day? I bought a package of frozen salmon and it was damn near inedible

I don’t like the ruining Lisa’s wedding in the future joke because Homer actually didn’t ruin it - Hugh did
