Dragons test chapter

Plot: Hiccup wasn't like the other Vikings in the village, he didn't try to kill any dragons, nor did he want to, not after befriending so many dragons, dragons that treated him far better than his fellow Vikings ever did. Follow the journey of Hiccup Haddock, the Dragon Master who could control any dragon, as he leaves his home to create a new one. Hiccup/Astrid

Scene 1:

"Vikings are brave, Vikings are brave. Be brave!" Eight-year-old Astrid whispered to herself as she held her favourite axe in her arms. The axe was obviously bigger than her but she was as stubborn as any other Viking in the village. Tonight, the dragons were raiding again, her parents had insisted that she stay inside the house while they go off and fight the invaders.

But she didn't want to, she was brave too! She could fight!

Taking a deep breath, she quickly rushed out of her house, axe high and roaring as a large battle of Vikings and dragons raged on. She saw a bunch of terrible terrors trying to steal some cabbage, she charged at them and swung her axe, managing to scratch one of them them on the back as they scattered away.

"That's right!" Astrid said victoriously. "Run away cowards!" She said with a massive grin, a grin that quickly disappeared when she felt something much, much larger than a terrible terror land behind her, a warm breath blowing on her back. She slowly turned and found herself face to face with a glaring monstrous nightmare, a dragon so dangerous that even her parents were hesitant to take one on in combat.

Astrid took in a deep breath before she raised her axe, only for the monster to push her with his head, sending her flying a small distance away, the axe falling out of her hands and landing a small distance away while she landed on her back and ended up rolling several meters. The nightmare growled before rushing towards her.

"Astrid!" She dimly heard her parents scream. They must have seen her from a distance away, but she knew that there was no way they'd get to them in time. Astrid screamed and closed her eyes as the nightmare got close enough, only to blink hard when she heard a familiar voice.

"Back!"

Opening her eyes she looked up and saw Hiccup standing in front of the dragon, the scrawny runt of the village was suddenly looking far less runty as he faced down a dragon that looked a hundred times bigger than him.

"Back! Back!" Hiccup said, making a pushing motion with his hands as he walked closer to the dragon which miraculously started backing away. Eventually, the dragon stopped moving and let out a vicious growl, Astrid felt her whole body shiver but Hiccup didn't seem fazed. Hiccup pulled his shoulders back, puffed his chest out and lowered his arms to his side before standing as straight as he possibly could. An odd screeching sound, almost like a roar escaped from Hiccup's mouth. Astrid had no idea what he was attempting but the dragon looked incredibly offended. The nightmare suddenly stood on its back legs and raised its entire body to be as straight up as possible, it looked straight up into the sky.

Hiccup quickly jumped to the hatch on the side of her house and opened it as the nightmare shot flames into the air, almost like it had been challenging Hiccup. As soon as it had looked down, Hiccup had managed to throw himself and Astrid into the hatch while closing it.

"Are you okay?" Hiccup asked in a concerned voice once they were safe from the dragon outside which by the sound of things was now fighting the other Vikings.

"I'm...I'm fine but...Hiccup, how did you do that?" Astrid gaped at him.

"I've got my tricks," Hiccup said with an awkward shrug.

Astrid didn't know what to think as she walked through this new village, followed by Snoutlout, Fishlegs and the twins.

Hiccup Haddock had been a massive mystery for her over the years, many villagers insisted that he was a coward due to his unwillingness to fight dragons, but she knew better, no coward would have jumped in and saved her like he had. She had defended him many times over the years from the other villagers, but he really hadn't made it easy for her. He kept disappearing and he had been practically forced to take dragon training with the others.

Yet he had unintentionally become the best and had been 'gifted' the chance to fight the nightmare, only Hiccup hadn't fought it. Several dragons, including an Odin-be-dammed Night Fury had stormed the arena, freeing all the dragons and Hiccup had hopped onto the Night Fury's back before flying away whilst announcing that he would not be returning. Astrid had no idea what he had been doing during his time away but evidently, he had been creating a village of his own, one that she was now walking in.

The buildings around looked similar to Berk but were far more impressive, the villagers all seemed happy, surprisingly, because there was one glaring difference between this village and Berk. There were dragons everywhere!

Some deadly nadders were perched on a roof, a gronckle was working with a blacksmith in a shop, terrible terrors were playing with children, a zippleback was helping an elderly couple walk down the village and a monstrous nightmare was guarding a newborn baby while the parents enjoyed a nice picnic. Guiding them through this village was a man named Hulder who spoke of Hiccup with almost fanatical devotion.

"And of course, the great chief often has to leave to attend to his dragons, but he does his best to make time for all villagers, like all good chiefs should." Hulder said as he guided them to a large building. "And this is the Great Hall, the Chief himself helped build this together with the villagers and the dragons, a perfect act of unity." He said before the doors to the hall were pulled open by a pair of large, bulky dragons that the Berk Vikings had never seen before.

They walked in the hall, realising that they were interrupting what appeared to be a small meeting. All the Vikings in front of them were being addressed by a man wearing black armour that looked like dragon scales and a fur coat that descended down to the ground.

"Have it completed by today," The man said before dismissing the vikings, they all nodded before walking off, leaving just the man and the group.

"My Chief," Haldur said respectfully. "The visitors are here,"

"Hiccup?!" Astrid and the rest gasped.

"Hello guys," Said Hiccup tiredly. "Sorry, I'm just a bit tired," He said just before two large beings glided down and landed next to him. The group took a step back as they saw just what Hiccup was standing between. One was a skrill, which looked blinded in one eye and the other was a Night Fury with a mechanical tail.

"Ah, guys, meet my best friends," Hiccup said casually. "This is Sparks," He said, gesturing to the Skrill. "And this is Toothless," He said, gesturing to the Night Fury.

"You named a Skrill and a Night Fury 'Sparks' and 'Toothless'?!" Snoutlout demanded.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time," Hiccup said with a sheepish chuckle.

A.N: So the base idea of this story is that Hiccup didn't just meet one dragon, he met several and he did them at a much younger age, giving him more time to know more about dragons. Eventually he'll tire of Berk and go onto make his own village, and yes there will be drama between him and Stoick.

Also, I forgot to mention it in the last test chapter but if any of you ever want to change your votes then you still have plenty of time. I'm considering reuploading the poll after the test chapters are done so you guys don't have to scroll and find it, let me know if anyone has a problem with that.

Thanks for reading.

Comments

I'm exited mostly for this one because knowone every dose a httyd fanfiction and it always gets abandoned. I hope this story Flys as high as dragons can go. I'm curious is this including "race to the edge" story.

The staff seems entertaining, and I’m curious what kind of inventions he might create in his own village as well. Although I do, hope he has the closest connection to toothless, because toothless is adorable.
