Dick Grayson as Batman test chapter

Plot: Dick Grayson finds out that Batman - his mentor and adopted father - is dying and wants him to take his place. Follow Dick on an adventure where he meets Batman's new son and finds one of his old ones. Pairing will be voted on, main options at the moment are Starfire or Batgirl but others will be on the list.

Scene 1:

"So it is true then?" Talia asked in a saddened voice. "My beloved is dying," She asked Richard(also known as Dick) Grayson as they walked side by side through her castle.

"I'm afraid so," Dick sighed as he walked alongside her. "He's ended up being over exposed to Joker's gas, the doctors estimate he's got a year to live. Two if he takes it easy,"

"So a year then," She said knowingly, Bruce would rather die than take it easy. "That doesn't explain why you're travelling the world by yourself?"

"I had made a name for myself as 'Nightwing', but Gotham needs Batman far more than it needs me. If Batman's gone then the city might just go back to what it used to be, I can't have that. I can't let Bruce die thinking that all he did was for nothing," Richard said firmly. "So I'm retracing his steps, learning everything that he learnt. And one of the places he learnt them from is here."

"You're here to train," She realised. "I hope you know that training with us is no easy feat,"

"Nothing worth doing is easy,"

"One of Bruce's favourite lines," She said with a sad smile. "There are...a few secrets I had been planning to tell Bruce. I suppose I should probably start getting on with it."

"Secrets?" Richard frowned. "What secrets?"

"Well," She paused as they stopped outside of a room. "Perhaps I should show you," She opened the door, Richard leaned his head in and instantly felt like he had been punched in the heart. In the room were two people, one was a young boy that looked like a photocopy of the pictures he had seen of a young Bruce Wayne, but the other was a boy that he had not expected to see in years.

"Jason?"

Scene 2:

"How does it feel?" Green Arrow asked, standing next to Richard as they both stared at the building opposite them. Green Arrow was dressed in his usual gear, but Richard wasn't, he wasn't wearing his Robin costume or the Nightwing suit he had come to love. He was wearing Bruce's suit, standing here dressed as Batman. He had never felt more like a fraud in his life.

"It feels like I'm playing dress up," He admitted. "Bruce was...Bruce, he...I don't know that I can be him."

"You can't," Green Arrow said matter-of-factly as he adjusted the strap of his quiver. "You're not him, no one is him. I once saw him beat fifteen crack-heads by himself."

"I once saw him beat twenty-five by himself," Richard replied. "He's the greatest superhero of all time,"

"I'm going to choose to not take offence to that," Green Arrow said lightly. "The point is, you're not Bruce. Bruce was Batman."

"Yeah, for him it was Bruce that was the mask." Rich frowned.

"Exactly, if you just spend the rest of your life trying to be him then you're going to be miserable," Green Arrow told him. "If you're going to be Batman then do it, but be your version of him."

Scene 3:

"How's the new suit?" Superman asked as he stared at the new Batman in front of him. He knew that Bruce was dead and that saddened him greatly, but he also thought that Bruce had chosen the best possible person to replace him.

"It'll take some getting used to," Richard said as he stood in front of Superman in his new suit. He was dressed from head to toe in a highly advanced suit that was completely black apart from the grey utility belt and the red bat symbol.

"Where did you get it from?" Superman couldn't help but ask.

"Our latest multiversal adventure when I ended up meeting an alternative version of Bruce where he was like a hundred years old and had a guy named Terry looking after him. That was an experience, let me tell you."

A.N: For the record the suit in the final scene is basically the Batman Beyond suit. As for the pairing, there are many available options that I'll put on a list if this story gets made, some of those options include Power-Girl, Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Starfire. Also for the record, if I write this story in the future then I'm going to write him as 'Richard' because when I wrote him in one of my previous test chapters my wife came into the room and thought I was writing smut and that was not a fun conversation, let me tell you.
