"Happy two months of Heartstopper Season 3! π
I wanted to post this to share the making of the titlesβ sequences, which I realised I never touched on before!
The animations for the titles were done last, after the episode edits were (mostly) finalised and the main animations done. Coming up with these was usually quite intuitive: they were usually based on what happens during the cold open or in the episode. For example, for βLoveβ we just saw the βI love youβ bubble-like text - so itβs only natural to use a similar visual language in the title card. For βWinterβ, a simple snowflake is the perfect opportunity for a little foreshadowing of the scene between Tori and Michael.
In a few cases it did get harder, especially when the title could mean different things like in the case for βHomeβ or βBodyβ: how do you express βHomeβ in five seconds, when Home can mean a safe place but also a suffocating and toxic environment? Or when itβs not about a physical home but itβs more of a concept? How do you visualise βBodyβ giving it all the nuances that the show tries to portray about the relationship between ourselves and our reflection in the mirror?
Either way, this process was always quite a fun creative challenge, as it has always been about finding the sweet spot between what makes sense for the content of the episode AND the word itself used for the title."
My favourite is the combo βTogether-Apartβ for episode 7 and 8. Do you have a favourite? β¨"
