Goku healing Cell is the smartest decision in anime/manga history. I'll explain why after the arc

Vegeta would dominate Trunks

Trunks wasn’t stronger than vegeta btw. Vegeta just knew not to push it too far so he didn’t lose too much speed.

Ah yes the most controversial moment of this arc and arguably of the entire anime. A moment I used to think was stupid until I read the manga and rewatched this section of the arc. 1. This is a statement towards Goku’s confidence in his son’s abilities and two, Cell gets desperate quickly.

So it turns out that where everyone thought Goku was fighting to save the world, he was really fighting without that pressure and was just having fun because he put all that weight on Gohan's shoulders. Cell was very confident he would still win even if Goku was healed and restored to full strength, so either Cell is delusional or the fight was a lot less even than it appeared. I liked that the 'Gohan's innocence' theme was added back to the scene where Goku talks him into fighting.

Goku healing up the bad guy bent on destroying his planet and then sending his son to fight him is the height of recklessness. Darn those Saiyan battle instincts!
