Chapter 184: Enterprise

I teleport the crate of materials with [Immaculate Translocation] into my shop. It contains the last of the mana-producing materials I need to make the flagship reactor.

I thank the deliveror and get to work. It has been another week, but fortunately, materials that produce elemental mana are far more common than the ones that produce reserved mana, so it didn’t take long for the rest of the materials I need.

Finally, after so long, the Flagship will be finished. It had saved the village when we needed to evacuate during the cursed being crisis, been buried under a landslide, and continually served to transport people in times of need, all while being unfinished, and now I will give it a heart to bring it alive… metaphorically, hopefully.

How do I do this? I ask myself. What is the best way to make this reactor?

Should I start with the elemental mana-producing materials first, inscribe the mana transforming inscription and get those out of the way? Or should I start with the best materials first?

I won’t be implanting a mana core into it; first, I don’t have the necessary breakthroughs to copy and transfer my mana core, and second I am worried [Astral Projection] is what’s draining my anima, and using it may make it worse.

For now, I start with a general sphere shape sitting on a stand, both shaped from solid vitality. Vitality helps animated the body, so it’s poetic that the reactor, which will fuel the ship giving it life, is made from vitality.

I begin to inscribe the mana transforming inscriptions on its surface, cutting out holes in the center. Since the inscriptions are coreless, they don’t use that spot anyway, and since solid vitality prevents mana from passing through it, the mana needs some way to escape this part of the reactor.

I then build another sphere around that held a centimeter off and inscribe it, but that’s when I noticed a flaw in my design. The vitality is slowly transforming into reserved mana which destroys the inscription.

I should have known this! I chastise myself. It is a complete oversight that I should have worked out already!

The solution is to make solid, reserved mana; the problem is that reserved mana is completely inert, it has no mechanism that allows that, and it’s generally a bad idea since reserved mana easily transforms into other types of mana which can lead to degradation of the reactor if it’s production is impure.

I start to pace back and forth, trying to figure out how to get passed this hurdle. Any mana structures I place this inscription on will erode as it’s turned into reserved mana which means this part will have to be made out of mundane materials.

With no other way around it, I visit my parent’s shop to get some steel and reshape the steel ingot with [Beauty Blessing]. The ingot slowly reshapes into the sphere as inscriptions etch into its surface. I take another ingot and do the same, forming a sphere around the first, held just a centimeter off. I finish it with a third sphere to make all the mana produced by the items transformed into reserved mana.

With the sphere done, I fuse each of the elemental mana-producing materials together and teleport it into the sphere and watch for over an hour to make sure it’s working properly and efficiently.

Once satisfied, I start with the rest of the reactor. I mold the rest of the materials around the sphere, the ones that produce reserved mana, and seal the whole thing with a shell of solid vitality to prevent any leakage. I make a hole where it is going to attach to the airship’s mana wiring and move on to the decorating process.

I paint over the reactor with super-solid beauty and space essence, making a design of intricate lines like that of two hemispheres coming together on a black sphere.

With the reactor now finished, I take it to the airship to finally install it, but I am not done yet. There are three more things left to do: Make the emergency thrusters, the defensive cannons and ammunition, and the final decoration and inscription.

With the reactor being a good source of mana to draw upon, I start with the cannons, making them out of super-solid mana and enchanting them to fire projectiles at high speeds. It would be bad if the airship runs out of ammo and is unable to defend itself, so I also make two laser cannons that each draws upon its own battery room, which is fueled by mana gathering inscriptions that feed mana into several inscriptions that transforms that mana into reserved mana then runs through several enchantments that turn that mana into spell mana before finally being stored in the batteries which serve as capacitors. As much as ten thick mana wiring feeds the mana into the laser cannons to draw as much mana as needed for the powerful weapons.

Each laser cannon should be able to sustain fire for three minutes which is enough to drill through all but the hardiest or most regenerative things and creatures. The only downside is that it will take at least a day to fully fill the capacitors but will likely take longer in an area of normal mana density.

With the cannons finally done, I get to work on the ammunition. The plan is to make them out of liquid mana, but the unstable mana is always hard to work with, not to mention very volatile, like nitroglycerin. However, making a shell of normal super-solid mana around it should make it safe for storage and make it fireable from the cannons.

Now that I think about it, I should add another battery room that I can draw upon strictly for making more ammo, but this leads to another issue, it can’t be fed by the reactor since that is solely for the flight, spatial enchantments, and normal operations of the airship. The weapons are being powered by mana being drawn in by inscriptions which leave no room for this battery to be fueled… unless I increase the surface size of the ship. If I add huge sails not for the flight of the airship but rather as a mana scoop, then they can be deployed for faster recharge of the airship’s emergency resources!

The more I mark off on my to-do list, the more gets added to it, but that’s normal in pioneering technologies like this.

Over the next day, I add deployable fans with layers of mana collection inscriptions. These are made of mundane materials, so I can use the most efficient inscriptions without destroying the mana structure. When fully deployed, the fans will double the rate at which mana is collected. Te mana isn’t transformed into reserved mana in the fans but in small rooms made to be capable of transforming the amount of flowing through it. Also, if the fans are broken off, I only have to worry about one inscription, not two.

Now that is out of the way and drawing in more mana for me to work with, I get back to making the ammo. This is the part that takes the longest, a whole week! Liquid mana is already incredibly dense and uses a ton of mana to make but not only that; I needed to make hundreds of them for several types of spells that can be used to target an attacker’s weakness.

With the defenses made, the last addition left to do is the emergency thrusters. I have been planning their design ever since I completed the mana transforming inscription and have settled on a design that I like. It works a lot like a plane engine where, through the use of enchantments, it compresses air before feeding it into a heating chamber; the heating chamber mixes liquid fire mana with the air to superheat it, causing rapid expansion for maximum thrust.

The most difficult part of the design is conserving as much liquid mana as possible and not dumping it out with the heated air, but unfortunately, I was unable to make a perfect design. There is still a significant loss of mana, but due to the nature of the heating chamber, there is no way around it.

The thrusters have to be compact enough to be practical, and this means that the fastest way to heat up the air is to use liquid mana; running it through a mesh of solid fire mana is not enough for the intended use of the thrusters.

That doesn’t mean I won’t use less powerful, more efficient thrusters. I make four of them on the sides of the airship for redundancy of the normal operations; if anything happens to the thrust sails, the backup thrusters, which produce less thrust, will at least keep the airship moving, and since they are compact compared to the sails, they are perfect for the job.

This leaves the final touches, the decoration. This ship is going to be traveling all over the place; it should have a design most would appreciate, a non-offensive and neutral design. I settle on a sleek and modern style that accentuates the shape of the ship. I incorporate the inscriptions on its surface into the design of the decorations, with swirling patterns forming from the bow of the ship, which repeats along the length of the airship.

With that done, I take one last look over my work, but something nags me; however, something is missing.

“What’s wrong?” Kadona asks. She and Uloru have been keeping an eye on me while I work on the airship to make sure I am not draining my anima, and so far, they haven’t noticed anything.

“... It needs a name,” I say after a moment of pondering the issue. “It’s the most important airship we have ever made.”

“I see,” Kadona says, adopting a thinking pose. “What about… Fu… Fo… Ash?”

Fufoash… Fall refusing boat? Really?!

I give Kadona a dissatisfied look before glancing at Uloru

“Umm,” Uloru says a little bashfully, “Ka… amash?”

Kaamash, great sky boat? You literally want to call it the great airship?! At least it’s better than Kadona’s suggestion.

Kadona and Uloru’s naming sense needs some work, but I can’t really blame them. The airship should have a name that really describes what it’s all about. It’s about exploration, trading, and meeting new people. It kind of reminds me of a show about exploring space.

Entylamo? I ponder. Frontier, explore, greet people. It basically means “to seek out new frontiers and meet new people,” which is its mission. It’s as close as I can get it to calling it the Enterprise in the Runalymo language.

I write the name on the back of the airship, and for a split second, everything is still, as if the calm before the storm, then mana starts to fall into the Airship, rushing in faster and faster. Recognizing the transformation of a magic item, I scan my magic framework, looking at my cursed skills to see if any of them are activating, and to my horror, [Astral Projection] shines brightly, a clear indication of its activation.

“To intentionally make a magic Item, you need a sacrifice” Kayafe’s words echo in my mind; the sacrifice has always been my anima. The condition of the skill’s curse is clear to me; anything I create receives a portion of my anima to literally project my life into my creations.

More and more mana is sucked in, so much so that a growing field of depleted mana covers the entire village! I don’t know if it’s because of its tier or its size, but the airship has consumed the most amount of mana of all of my magic items so far.

That’s when I feel something being torn away from me as a coldness washes through my body and soul. I fall to my knees, and the world seems to fade in and out, and finally, the cold darkness takes me.

Comments

Ugg, I know she is not dead because the story would end, but I have a feeling this is going to cripple her.

Bad Dog

Te mana>>the mana

Dragonkinn

Oh God. 76 words in 1 sentence with maybe 2 commas... you should take a look at where she's describing the cannons again. A good sentence has about 15-20 words, and at most, 30-35.

Rainer

It sounds like Mana Manipulation might have to take a back seat despite its prominence in her build. She'd have some trouble trying to not make magic items.

Venalitor

I figure her anima might be something she slowly regains, especially since her soul is essentially indestructible. Also, I figure what Just happened is just her passing from healthy to unconscious and unhealthy

Gwendolyn Simmons-LaRose

@Kevin Bui Maybe being the first person to EVER cure a cursed skill will give her the "fabled point" she needs to upgrade from legendary and get to use her mythic point. After that, curing the second cursed skill will give her a proper legendary point. (Just thinking in OP best case scenario terms.)

Jemini

Maybe, since she's still rather young, the gods (other than Myoru) will not notice she died and has her memories restored, and Myo will just shove her soul into another Runmalyo, and her soul will carry all her class levels and achievements with it, and even keep the race (while having to re-grow the tails with age.)

Jemini

Not quite. But im to tired to go and check the previous chapters to get down why mm wasnt upgraded. I think it had to do with her wanting to have a higher race evolution... also wasnt it also about something with the lego point who may be corrupted too? What i do know is that those abilities have nothing to to with her valuable race slots. Those skills integrate, not override. Look at SM, integrated, it didnt override.

D

I wonder if she just lost enough anima to kill herself, cripple herself or maybe only enough to put her into danger territory? It seems a touch strange that the FIRST outward sign of anima loss would be instant death instead of it giving off symptoms as it gets worse, but maybe that do be what it is.

It'sATap

Technically she could maybe manipulate misima outside of the cursed skill with MM because misima is under magic manipulation which is the upgrade of mana manipulation

Halav

If she could upgrade, purify and relocate with 1 legendary point then she would have done so already with the one she can already obtain by maxing out MM, as its glowing and ready to be mastered, she just needs to max it out. The reason she is trying to gain another LP despite that is because 1 point cant do all those things, she needs the one she will get from mastering it specifically for upgrading it and then another for purification and relocation into a suitable framework. The reason AP is better to be integrated into a class rather than her race is because with our current knowledge about it, only Alysara will find a use for it, meaning it will be a waste of a valuable race slot for ALL of her descendants, but since she will be able to use it for research and possible increased chance of making magical items, it will not be a waste to use for a class, at least not in comparison to race, which all her of descendants will be affected by.

Pawzom Lz

exactly my point pawo, also you dont seem to realize it. ^^ ap is a niche skill, to get it into a framework, you have to either put it into your race, or you have to put it into a class. you only have 4 class slots, why should she 'waste' it onto something like ap? it dostn even fit her build. even if her ap is stuck at the start of the first evolution in her race (in case of her death), there wont be many descendants who will find that problematic, as, as you say, its niche, and those wo find it useful probably still can work with a first evolution skill (as many dont even get the breakthroughs to evolve it once). I mean from the comments either i or others are misunderstanding something. From what i understand - you have to max a skill, then, when you use a legendary point on it, it will evolve and be purified, for a moment, in which she then plans to use a species evolution to incorporate the skill into her race trees magic framework. So, why woudnt she have to do the same for AP?

D

She didn't get a legendary point for the healing because she receieved *significant* help. Also it's been explicitly stated by Kayafe that creating a legendary item always, **ALWAYS**, gives a legendary point. If multiple people work on it, the one who contributed most will get the point.

Nematrec

What would be the point of that though? Its kind of a niche skill from the looks of it so only those who go down specific paths will benefit from it. Her race is already heavily magic focused so MM is a perfect fit but it isnt the same for AP. It could be suitable for her if she can find ways to use it to increase her chance of making magical items(maybe she can figure out ways to use not only monster body parts, but also capture their anima and store it in special containers and then combine it with items when she finishes them?), and with her research into other layers it could also be of use to her, but there are no guarantee her descendants will walk down those paths, while it is almost guaranteed they will walk down magical ones with how heavily their racial skills lean towards it. It would probably end up being as useless to most of her descendants as her milk trait currently is to her. I also dont think she needs to max it out as she can keep levelling racial skills after she gets them. Problem is if she dies then her descendants will be stuck at whatever skill she got it to. She also got corrupted evolutions connected to AP and anima, suggesting it could already be transferred over then.

Pawzom Lz

Uh, she is trying to get mm into her race, so i was more thinking along the line that she could try to get ap into the race as well. So, for that she need to max it and a legendary point too.

D

She does not have to max it out as that is for mastering it, which rewards a Legendary Point that is perfect for upgrading it into a better skill. What she needs is a class that it can be slotted into, then a legendary point to purify and transfer it so it is in a proper class framework. She could possibly use the 1000 skill points general class for it as she should be getting close? Which means her third class might be an astral summoner class? Seeing as anima is required for making magical items, gaining a class that allows her to better interact with it might get her closer to being able to make magical items at will. Ofc that would just be one of many requirements she would have to fulfill.

Pawzom Lz

I dont think she can unlearn the cursed skill. Even if she gets rid of the Miasma, it still isn't a part of her classes/race, so it will build up miasma again.

Squirtle

Not necessarily. She can alleviate the problem with someone that can recover her anima. Or temporarily stop crafting. But that only delays it. Still, I don't think AP should be prioritized over MM directly. We also don't really know if she definitely needs to max the skill or that she needs to integrate it into a class or race. It might just be enough to spend a point to cure the miasma and then unlearn the skill like any other. Sure she'd lose progress but she doesn't use the skill often anyways.

Tjark

The worst that could happen is that she dies after running out of anima... Her soul being indestructible has nothing to do with her body. If she runs out of anima and dies, her soul will either return to the void again or she'll reincarnate just with her soul and memories intact. And she doesn't recover anima either as far as I know, otherwise this problem wouldn't be anywhere as serious. It's the reason she needs a life bond master or something to recover her anima again.

Tjark

How is it not her achievement alone in curing the cursed skill once she does it? The problem is that for now she only has a plan for mana manip. She wants to cure the miasma, advance the skill and then integrate it into the framework of her race by taking a race evolution. I doubt she'd want astral projection in her race necessarily but would she be able to just dismiss the skill after curing the miasma with a point?

Tjark

I don't think Astral Projection would normally allow you to do what the curse does. Because she doesn't even use the skill when it drains her anima. But yeah, normal crafters would have to willingly make a sacrifice to get a magic item.

Tjark

I've heard on discord author leaves his window open sometimes where you can take a sneak peek at future chapters ;) (it's a running joke on discord because we once guessed a future chapter content)

Tjark

Uh, for others it might not have become a magic item? Its her astral projection that feeds the creation of magic items. The cursed skill acts as a double edged sword, but it also gives insights in how to create magic items. If the creator has a astral projection skill (the uncursed version), they could use it to sacrifice some of their vitality to fuel the creation of a magic item (in theory, there is still more to it like how to trigger the act of creation, but its a good lead).

D

Ouch, so... now she actually has to prioritize purifying her astral projection instead of mana manipulation. Which brings with it the problem of: You need to max the skill first before you can put it into your class. Guess she needs two legendary points now, plus someone with the insights to help her level astral projection.

D

I suspect it will give her a point. But now cure projection is more important than manipulate mana. So she will have to use it on that.

TaylorTot

Great chapter. I wish I could see the result of making the ship in this chapter but I guess I will just have to wait until Tuesday for me. Given the nature of her soul she should recover from this. Hopefully she will recover with full anima but the worst that could happen would be the ship receiving a downgrade because it did not consume enough anima during creation. TFTC and see you next time.

Michael Hughes

She wont get a legendary point for it since she was not the only one to work on it, for the same reason she did not get a legendary point for healing her people after the cursed incident because Safyr helped her retrieve materials.

Pawzom Lz

This is entirely on a cursed skill, normal people managing making a magic item have nothing to fear in this regard

Nematrec

I imagine curing a skill might give her some type of point as well.

SecretsOfTheVoid

Only if you have an inconvenient cursed skill. Otherwise this is nothing but a rewarding achievement.

Robert Mullins

I think the special feature of this airship is that it needs to generate a 14th mind for Alysara that's permanently locked to the operation of the ship. In other words, one of Aly's spare minds becomes the "computer" for the ship and has the ability to operate all the systems. Of course, this all depends on exactly what the backlash of this creation is. On the bright side, maybe this will be considered a legendary item and get her that achievement she needs to cure her cursed skills. (And hopefully it's enough to cure all three of them, or at least the 2 currently most problematic ones. Or, if not, she can get 2 legendary points by going on to complete her challenge for the 2nd and then she can cure both skills by spending 2 points.)

Jemini

Man, that system really sucks for crafters. Doing your best, and trying to push your craft forward is actively punished by the universe.

Lictor Magnus

Maximum scribblehub webnovel trash for Next chapter: 'Reincarnated as an airship but all my passengers are futas'

Robert Mullins

Thank you for the chapter. We finally know concretely what the cause for Aly's low anima is. I suspected that when she creates a magical item, her anima gets sacrificed but I didn't make the connection with [astral projection] since she doesn't use it that much. My other theory was that the gods tampered with Aly's birth to make her die at the age of 20 to get her soul back but this one fell short when I read again the chapter where we learn about the memories of the archive of eternity. In any event, I hope everyone has a wonderful day !

Olivier Pascal

Nah, that would be waay too anticlimatic. Besides what about discovering a cure for her cursed skills and fixing her problem with her anima now that it is completely depleted? Besides, there is so much more to learn, discover and invent about and with mana. (If that was sarcasm, cudos to you. I will still take it seriously😉)

Mercury313

Darn cliffhangers. I want to strangle you to write faster but that would be counterproductive so I'm resigned to waiting untill you are finished with the next chapter😁

Mercury313

Great final chapter, guess it had to end this way. Looking forward to the epilogue.

kaalveiten

Amazing!
