November 2024 :: HexCorp Monthly Bulletin

Hello, darling drones.

I’m pretty much going to focus on one thing with this update! I’ve mentioned it a few times now and I feel bad for hammering on about it, but I promise this is going to be the last time I talk about it.

Patreon Exodus

TL;DR It has become more difficult for some adult content creators to post onto this platform

There’s been a lot of creators who, although they’re not leaving Patreon outright as they still have a substantial audience upon this platform, are all starting to set up shop on different websites and treating those as their primary focus.

This isn’t even limited to just adult content creators either. Patreon took on a lot of VC funding that it’s failing to meet the requirements of, and it’s highly likely the platform as a whole might collapse under the weight of that. But that’s not what I’m going to focus on!

I know there’s been a couple of times now where I’ve signed up to another adult content creator’s Patreon and then wondered ‘huh, where’s all the stuff that they used to post before?’ And the answer is usually: Patreon’s TOS changes now mean they cannot post any of the artwork they used to do.

The main change that Patreon made was no longer allowing anything non-consensual. What that means in practice is, unless the creator can prove that those depicted in their work explicitly consented to the scene, that work is not allowed.

So, for instance, if the subject of a work was tied up, this would not be allowed unless the creator also posted an accompaniment work of that subject before being tied up, facing the camera and clearly saying ‘I consent!’

(which is somewhat difficult to do when, say, the subject is wearing gas masks)

Because of this extra effort, and a lot of creators not wanting to compromise a story they might be telling, instead of risking it they just… stopped posting.

(I’ve also seen a fair few creators shutting up shop altogether as a result of the US election, but that’s a whole other can of worms to get into which isn’t related to the point I’m making here)

Something important to note about Patreon though is that it knows it’s really just a banking service for people to support creators. A lot of supporters won’t even necessarily look at what they’re supporting on Patreon, as they’re more than happy to see that creator thriving on social media and elsewhere. As such, Patreon is very on top of what a creator can do to try and get around its TOS. You can’t, for instance, stop posting the work itself to Patreon but then post a link to where you’re actually posting it

But because of this, it’s also effectively against the TOS for a creator to say where someone could find their other work, if said work breaks the TOS. So a lot of creators have stopped posting here and are now posting elsewhere, without being able to inform their audience on Patreon where they’ve gone. It’s almost up to the supporters to figure it out and also switch platforms. Which sucks.

So I just wanted to inform you of all that! It’s a pretty hostile environment for adult content creators at the moment, but it’s all stuff that can be worked around.

If you have any further questions, please do feel free to DM me on social media!

And I will still be posting here, whenever I can!

Thank you for reading!

~ Hex
