Early Look: Finished Commission Behind-the-Scenes! 🐉🔥✨+ new video for you ✏️

Hellooo everyone! I hope you all had a lovely weekend 🥰

I wanted to show you all the finished commission piece I made for Olivia Rose Darling! The artwork is inspired by her new book coming out in July called Wrath of the Dragons, the sequel to Fear the Flames 🔥✨

This was SUCH a fun drawing to make, and Olivia was so lovely to work with —but the project definitely came with some challenges! For one, I’d never made a character sheet with six characters before, and at first I was like… how is this composition going to work?! 😅

There were also lots of tiny details I had to keep in mind for their designs, and I thought I would share some of the project brief with you guys so you can see the info I had to work with! :)

First, the descriptions for each pose concept! This is what Olivia sent me:

After the pose descriptions, Olivia included multiple references to show me exactly what her characters look like, which helped sooo much with the design process:)

Here’s what she sent for Elowen:

Lastly, she sent me Elowen’s detailed character description!

And finally, some color guides for their hair and skin tone shades:

And that’s it! I find it soooo helpful when clients provide this much detail, and I had so much fun figuring out their designs 🥰

There are some details that are kind of up to interpretation (like the tattoos for example), and in those cases, I usually just draw what I imagine on a separate layer so the author can tell me if it’s close to their vision or not :)

I recorded the painting process for you guys, so you’ll get a new real-time video this week! 😍💌 I’m excited to share it with you!
