The movie was based on real events that happened. The politics help understand the timeline of the events (Indira Gandhi declared emergency in India when she lost the election. DMK the tamil nadu's ruling party was the only one in India fighting against it. ). After this Boxing was banned in Madras (now Chennai). Also Sarpatta just means "Sir Title", as the first boxer in the clan got the Sir title.
