Halloween Costumes (wip)
Added 2023-10-18 22:06:34 +0000 UTCHere's a little sneak peak of a work in progress. It's Pepper and Paddy dressing up in Halloween costumes. Pepper is going as a manananggal and Paddy as a mangkukulam.
For those who aren't familiar with Philippine folklore, a manananggal is a creature that looks and acts like a normal person during the day, and at night, splits its body in half and goes around looking for victims to eat, preferably the fetuses of pregnant women. A mangkukulam is, for the most part, a witch that conjures curses and ill fortune to others.
Those intestines on a stick are, I think, called isaw (ee-sah-w)--a barbecued delicacy in the Philippines that are typically sold by food vendors by the road. It comes from chicken, I think. I thought it would go nicely with the theme of Pepper's costume where her prop guts are hanging out.
I'll be coloring this piece in a bit. Thought I'd just share 😄
