As trash as the Johto series is and I think as a series it's still worse than Advanced, it honestly had a better League than this. The main thing that puts Johto over Hoenn in terms of Leagues is Ash vs Gary, like though I have mixed opinions on Gary as a rival and think he's overrated and carried by nostalgia, Ash vs Gary in the Johto League was acutally a rivalry climax for 5 seasons. It was the precursor to Ash vs Paul, which is pretty much Ash vs Gary but better. Ash vs Gary walked so Ash vs Paul could run, and the Hoenn League didn't have that kind of rival climax like that. Think it would be worth rewatching the full Johto League especially after this one. May had such good rivals in Drew and Harley that Ash was lacking

The lack of real rivals really showed here since these rivals were shown too late. Morrison whole thing could've been better handled and done pre-battle. Tbh for what it was, Ash vs Tyson wasn't THAT bad as a whole even, and the rest of the Morrison battle was just ok. And for an NPC, Katie was a surprisingly good opponent. Don't think this League is the best (actually rank it 3rd worst), but it REALLY suffers after Leagues like Johto, Sinnoh and Kalos. Also, that guy bossing around Team Rocket was one of the best parts, and respect to Swellow and Glalie
