Economic stratification accelerated by the profits of ongoing semi-privatized and increasingly mercenary warfare enabling the elite to overwhelm and corrupt the preexisting (albeit flawed) system of constitutional checks and balances really does seem like a relevant story for our modern age.

The modern “tech corporate owned regions” replacing regional governmental structures and small d democratic processes is their amalgamation of (mostly misogynistic) sci-fi and AU pseudo history combined with the inherent biases of a Privileged set of dudes that chose to ignore any ethical & liberty considerations that are implicated by the ruling classes taking any & all power away from the rest of us.
