Ford is from a much older and long forgotten railway with many more shielded Steam Dragines like him. As time went on, more of his kind disappeared with contracts ending and a lack of work for them. As he too would succumb to a lack of a need for work and disappearing, he was traded to a railway that needed a Dragine just like him, with shields!
On his own he traveled to this great railway that saved his life, and now manages his own small rail line there and is grateful for his second chance. He's even become great friends with Avan and Ficsher. and other Dragines working for an independent quarry.
