Tom Recommends: Shadow Gambit!

Tom: Bonus Podcast fans, we are sorry - I was in London with Matt recently explicitly to record an episode for you but the little podcast room we usually use was BOOKED UP ALL DAY. Probably by Off Menu or something. When did they get so popular!? WEAK format imho. We’ll have a double-bill of pods to jump into next month to compensate!

In the meantime, I’ve made a little extra video where I just earnestly recommend Shadow as a good videogame! And I am certain there’s plenty of crossover between ‘folks who subscribe to the shut up and sit down newsletter’ and ‘people who like slow-paced tactics games’? Give it a whirl!

IIRC Shadow Tactics really ramps up the complexity of its puzzles as the game goes on - they feel much more like puzzleboxes than real places, at times! Shadow Gambit never took me more than like 30/40 per level, even at the end!

Shut Up & Sit Down

Wonderful highlight, Tom. Do you and the crew have any board games that you think replicate this style at the table?

I'm on mission 12 in Shadow Tactics but somehow maneuvered myself into an unsolvable puzzle and also am getting a bit tired of the formula - but it's still a fantastic game that gets stealth right. I even want to play the end of the story at this point. That said, I wouldn't mind a less punishing version where I don't need, uhm, multiple hours per level.
