Thank You

I have wanted to write this post for a little while, but kept putting it off. I will try to keep it brief.

The viewing figures for The Infinite Review have been steadily declining for a while now. Maybe it's the algorithm, maybe it's the rise of tiktok or vtubers, maybe I am simply not as entertaining anymore. Whatever the reason, it is discouraging. I know it's unwise to judge the worth of ones work on Internet Numbers, but the rate of decline is stark enough to make me worry about reaching a point where I question if it's worth making these videos at all. Don't get me wrong, I never saw the channel as something that would grow to dizzying heights, but I did hope to at least maintain the modest audience I had - and lately it feels as though I've been failing to do that.

And this is why I want to you all how much the patreon support means to me. It's so easy to sound disingenuous when you're a youtuber saying things like this, but honestly: there simply would not be any videos or podcasts without you. This patreon remains an anomaly. It frankly should not have this much support when you look at how small my channel is. And while the diminishing views on the videos can be disheartening, the patreon reminds me that even if my audience is small, it's a dedicated one that truly enjoys what I am doing, and that means the world to me.

Even though I'm a little embarrassed writing all this, I would feel much worse about not saying it. So there you go, it's off my chest for now. Thank you all again so very much. There are lots more Infinite Reviews planned and hope you'll enjoy and share them with others.

Not going to be able to say anything anyone else here hasn't, so I'll just say that I love your shit and would be devastated were you to stop. You're niche, but you're you mean so much to us who like you. That's how it is with pretty much everything I really love. This channel is a cult classic. Shine on, you crazy diamond.

gibbdude

Not on here often so please excuse the belated response. The views you get do in no way correlate to the quality of your content. Frankly, I find your videos to be some of the most original, humorous, genuine and entertaining that can be found on YT. And it boggles my mind why you don't get a bigger audience day by day. I think that says more about other people than it does about you and your content. I hope you keep doing what you're doing for as long as you enjoy doing it. And even after that, please always stay who you are.

Incorrect Beans

Hey, Owen. You do you. If making videos is still enjoyable for you and it doesn't negatively impact your life - don't stop, it would be a loss to everyone. On the subject of maintaining the viewership. I'm sure you know more about these things, but I don't believe it works like that. You either get new subscribers and grow, or you don't and your viewership naturally declines over time, because some of the existing viewers move on, stop watching youtube for whatever reason, forget their password and so on. It happens to pretty much all old youtube channels, most of the subs are inactive users through no fault of youtube creators. As a professional Watcher of Things on the Internet, with full authority I say your videos are some of the best. I think we all know what kind of videos are blessed by the Holy Algorythm. And the reason your channel has received this anomalous, as you say, support is precisely because it's not what algorithm likes, but what the people genuinely like. Also, I do think you need to finish the Infinite Review. 33 episodes is a good start, but if my math doesn't fail me, you still have infinity episodes to go.

I'm quite late to the party, but I wanted to mention just how much I love the channel and your work. There is *nothing* I enjoy seeing pop up in my subscription box more than a new Infinite Review, which I know will be unfailingly funny and sincere. I have also never laughed quite so hard or so often listening to anything as I have listening to the podcasts. They are always one of the highlights of my month. Seeing you and the others have fun and make things together reminds me so much of making things together with my own friends. Being creative, putting your work into the world and by extension bearing your soul can be a scary, depressing, and often thankless task. I don't expect anyone following the channel up until this point would want you to feel obligated to keep producing videos. However, it gives me and many other great joy any time you put out something new. Whether it's the Infinite Review, or whatever else you decide to pour your energy into, it is my sincere hope that you keep creating. Thank you for what you do!

Owen! Totally missed this post before you included it in today's email. I feel like I mainly say it in the Christmas videos, but I love this corner of the internet you've carved a following. I feel lucky I found your releases way back when and that I'm a part of this Patreon now. I find it very strange that your videos aren't increasing in views too, so thank you for finding the joy in releasing them for our entertainment regardless.

Luke Whitfield

If I had to guess, Its probably because you number your reviews and this angers the Algorithm gods and scares off new people who don't want to bother watching 30+ reviews first even though the only thing they'd be missing out on is inside jokes. Might be the reason I don't really see Lets Plays anymore. I really love your videos by the way, and so do all 5 of my friends.

I must ask: who is the other?

Tweed Echidna

I hate YouTube but I watch everything you post. I sent your Fatal Deviation video to my cranky Irish stepdad and he almost pissed his pants, which led to my mum watching all your cookery ones and quoting things from them for the next two weeks. Love your content.

Kit Brooks

You're one of two people I felt guilty enough for enjoying so much over the years and not giving money in return. Been watching for probably close to a decade now and your stuff has stayed consistently good, but changed in a way that it never got dull. Love what you make and stay strong. <3

Gabriel

We have small viewing parties for your videos and yer vocabulary has made itself common in our conversations. I can’t add anything someone else hasn’t already said but I just have to leave this encouragement here anyways!

Incaptivity

Just keep doing what you're doing mecha. We're all here for you.

Kyle Wilkinson

Honestly mate, thank you for what you do and thank you for the channel. I've been following since the first infinite review, and when a new one comes out, its always a wee event for me and my pals. You and the crew have a great onscreen chemistry going on, you're a fun bunch of lads and quite honestly you're one of the funniest cunts on youtube - your content has an endearing absurdity to it but i've also learnt about a fair few interesting phenomena from the infinite review! Hats off mate, hope you get round to reviewing everything like you promised

One day the algorithm will magically bless you, one of the few channels that care about their contrnt

Rectangle

It's always cause for celebration for me when there's a new Owen video. Gotta admit that title + opening sentence made me worried you'd be throwing in the towel.

Daniel Reifferscheid

Why is Owen being nice? He is the primary antagonist.

Testing Test

shut up

Your channel is what made me make a Patreon account. I really enjoy your content but the style of videos you make don't play into the algorithm at all. And the eclectic mix of topics means some videos are going to be more popular than others. The fact that your Patreon is doing so well against your YouTube figs shows that despite making videos not favoured by YouTube the people who do watch your channel really enjoy it. I wish I was creative enough that people wanted to pay £1,400 every time I made something. Looking forward to the Minecraft let's play.

Been watching and loving your videos for a long long time now, was so happy to be able to support you on patreon. No other videos/podcasts make me laugh like yours. Thank you Owen for all the joy you've brought me x

Your channel is legitimately one of my alltime favourites. Everyone I introduce it to always loves it. We look forward just as much if not moreso to your E3 videos than the event itself. Please keep doing what you're doing for as long as is reasonable.

If this is a long winded way of saying that you're going to start making videos as an anime goat girl then I want you to know that I'm on board.

Every single friend of mine I've shown your videos to have adored them.

jsh020

Unsubbed some bloody artist to sub to you and remind you of your indomitable legacy. Bring back the greenscreen.

Thank you, Owen. I'm no good at putting my feelings into words. Just know that your content means a lot to me, and life would not be the same without it. I loved mechagamezilla, I loved Richie plays darksouls, and I love the infinite review.

Eirik Engmo Pettersen

The modern youtube world is incredibly rough, with people rising to millions of views while telling stories about dating in their teens meanwhile genuine content creators struggle to get any attention. But the thing about a core audience is that it sticks with you. I rely more on the email notification from Patreon here to find your new vids than youtube, and my wife and I will often find ourselves putting on the whole playlist after. Keep up the great work Owen, we love you!

Liquid Justice

I'm really, really glad that I started supporting you on Patreon, cause your videos have become quite a staple for my partner and I - when we first discovered your Star Trek playthrough, we literally cried laughing, and now we've rewatched your videos enough times that lines from them have become in-jokes between the two of us. Sincerely looking forward to see what other videos you make, we'll be there when they happen!!

Dissecting the Frog

only joking, I think the videos are fairly good actually

first

Your content is simply amazing! Every time a new video is out I gather all my friends together. It really is a surprise that you don't have more followers, but I'm glad that every fan is genuine, and it really shows with all the positive comments here.

Phnod

I have been watching your videos for many years now, and no matter how many times I come back to watch one of your older videos that I've already seen a bunch of times, they never fail to make me laugh. Me and some of my friends also keep quoting your videos for years now. Only Youtube as a platform is declining in quality, your videos are as great as ever. Thanks for all the joy you brought us, and know that there are a lot of people that really appreciate your work!

...Who are you? I want fitzthistlewits to come back to life.

You're the best Owen, an infinite review day is an amazing day and the podcasts have me laughing for hours on end. I really appreciate the work you do, I have no idea why it doesn't do a million views but I doubt you'll find any video with those figures half as good. I hope you can keep positive in the face of the views slumping and honestly thank you so much for the hours of entertainment 🙏

Malachy

truly you are a gamer

ive also wanted to say this for a while but ive absolutely loved your videos as well. I think your kingdom hearts video was the first one ive watched years ago when my friend introduced me to it but ive loved your content since then. everyone ive ever shown your videos thinks they're funny and a bunch of my close friends a big fans of yours, including a guy who doesn't even really play video games and is just kinda normal. We all talk about how bizarre and undeserved it is that your videos don't get many views because the fact is: they're honestly really good, and im not just saying that. we've been quoting your videos and laughing about them for years. seeing you upload a new video seriously always makes the day instantly better and you're the only creator ive ever backed on patreon. this has gotten really long and there's a lot i wanna say but trying to keep it brief i just want to say from the bottom of my heart, thank you. you've given all of us fans so much laughter and joy over the years, especially during these lockdowns, and im not the only one thats seen you stay and get funnier as youve made content. heres hoping to enjoy more laughter from one of my favorite content creators. Thank you Owen

I already said my bit earlier and it's lovely to see others be so supportive. I did want to mention that if you ever felt a desire to put out two videos a month but were worried about charging patrons twice - don't be a numpty! I feel like everybody hear would jump at the chance to see two videos *if you wanted to*. This isn't some demand to increase output but reassurance if you were ever worried that your patrons would feel short changed don't be. I've never seen a written Patron post from any of the creators I support with this amount of comments, let alone the amount of well thought-out replies. Keep up the good work Owen, you're golden.

Eoin

I've loved your videos ever since I saw that James Bond vid ages ago. I really enjoyed the direction you went with Infinite Review, so much so that I bestow upon them the greatest honour I can, having a meal while watching them. The podcasts are more than worth subscribing on here as well. I hope you're able to keep making the videos you want to make for as long as you want. All the best!

There have been 54 comments on this post as I'm writing this. And what I'm going to say here *has* been said before in one of those. But here is one more voice to tell you that I love your stuff. I adore it. It is really good, undeniably so. I'm actually really shocked to hear that your views have been declining, because you have stayed consistently entertaining to me. Thank YOU for making these. I'm glad to be helping even just a little bit, and I hope these words help even just a little bit more.

crab

I've been watching your videos for almost as long as you've been making them, now. I've watched them through four moves, one transition and a marriage. My wife watches them with me now. And she says the same thing to me every couple of weeks: "Owen should release a new video already." We rewatch them often (especially the Dinosaurs and Bridge Crew ones) and you've just been getting funnier and more talented as the years have gone by. Right before you started The Infinite Review, you said you were having trouble finding the worth in doing these and I wished I'd said then how much your videos mean to me. So now I'm writing a much-too-long, increasingly embarrassing comment saying just how much they do. You're my favorite creator on an increasingly miserable platform. You've helped inspire me to start making my own videos. You've become someone whose content I share with my loved ones. I hope you'll continue doing these. Because we all love you.

Bri

I just popped on to finally become a Patreon for ya. I am thrilled everytime you have a new video and I've been showing all my friends your stuff all the time!

Fetadae

I had a whole long-winded post lined up that, among other things, compared you to the suspiciously successful artists who make their money drawing extremely niche pictures on Deviantart. In lieu of that, I'll just say that you've been my favorite Youtube channel for many years now. I truly appreciate the unique work you're putting out, and myself, as well as your other patrons I assume, will be more than willing to support you for as long as you want to keep making videos.

[SAMPLE TEXT]

I keep editing my last comment with new things but basically you've always been brilliant and you're always gonna be brilliant

That does sound disheartening Owen, maybe it's time to make the jump to tiktok? Jokes aside, I hope that it is some concillation that even if your content isn't always the most algorithm friendly, it is one of the absolute greats.

It’s an event in my house whenever a new infinite review appears Owen, me or the missus will drop everything or anything we’re doing and make sure we watch it together on the biggest screen available at the time, even if that means huddling round a mobile rather than waiting, and generally listen to podcast straight after. It’s worth noting that although she has never expressed any interest in E3, the resident evil franchise, Start cereal or the distance & trajectory of Richie Morgan’s ejaculate, she’s consistently buckled over, which I think speaks to the quality of your work, distinctive style, humour, editing prowess & fabulous comic timing. Your videos are and always have been an absolute joyful thing, and I hope you still enjoy making them, & go on to make 10,000 more. Never doubt yourself.

Every video that comes out I just know will stay with me and certain moments will come to mind so often. It's hard to articulate but they're like songs that you couldn't imagine not knowing. Or TV series, like The Simpsons. Can you believe there was a time before The Simpsons? It's just part of the fabric of my psyche now. My cat was staring out of the window at my neighbour's cat the other day and I just thought of that bit in the Skyrim video where you and the praying mantis are gazing into each other's eyes and Baby by Os Mutantes is playing. I think of Start cereal EVERY time I have cereal.

shat myself for a second, thought you were canning the show. if there’s a reason why viewership is down, it’s certainly not you being less entertaining. i’ve been watching for the better part of a decade and you’ve been consistently improving as time goes on. please don’t let numbers get you down pal, you’re smashing it x

Love your content, really looking forward to the future videos <3

Sorry to hear your feeling a bit rubbish Owen! Echoing everyone else, every podcast and video has brought a little bit of joy to my day, particularly over the past year, thanks for your hard work!

Connor McClure

Owen, your channel has meant a lot to me. When I'm down I always stick on an old video of yours I've already seen about 8 or 9 times and it never fails to cheer me up. I appreciate all the work you put into them and I hope the view counts don't discourage you too much ♥️

videah

<3 you Owen, keep up the great work

Michael Fury

I'll always love and support you no matter what Owen. you're an excellent creative mind and the effort you put into your content is obvious. I have faith that one day, you'll get the recognition you deserve, and hopefully blow up and become fabulously wealthy, but for the time being I hope it's enough to receive the support of everyone here. glad you can keep doing what you're doing with your hilarious friends, and sharing the results with us unwashed peasants(rusty crows).

thepermanentmoose

We love your work, Owen! Thank you for everything you do!

Owen, you have been my favorite YouTube channel for years now. Seeing the notification for a new Infinite Review makes my week. You are the only person I have ever supported on Patreon because you are that funny, and I respect the work you put in. I found you through my friend a couple months after you started The Infinite Review and I've been a big fan since. Please keep in mind that while you may not have as many viewers as the next guy, the ones you do have are as diehard as they come!

In the future I want scientists to study how content so good didn't reach what it deserved. Like someone else mentioned earlier, you are one of the patreons I still support after all this time.

Love you and the gang man, looking forward to whatever is next <3

CosmicBobsledFrenzy

I also do this.

Hey Owen, I only discovered your channel relatively recently, compared to when you started out. While your pre-infinite-review stuff has a certain charm, I think the infinite review content has been amazing, and there isn't a single episode I haven't laughed heartily at. You have a way of picking your subjects, a way with your editing, and a way with the comedy that I have not found anywhere else. I share your videos with my friends whenever they come out, but I know all too well how little that actually does for the ultimate numbers. As someone who has been sharing their creative works on the net for over a decade at this point and still has barely a following at all, I know all too well how terribly that can weigh on ones mind. I hope that despite all that you can keep focusing on what you think is fun and share that with the rest of us. Thanks a lot for all you do, and the many days you've brightened!

Yukari Hafner

It's frankly criminal how little views you get Owen. You're definitely one of the funniest voices on the platform and I'm proud to support you in what little way I can.

TectonicImprov

It’s always an event when there’s a new video, hot and steamy, straight out of the oven (I wrote owen by mistake and had to delete and try again) - The quality’s been high for ages, and we’ll be here to support with this effort or whatever else it could be. I think most of us appreciate how badly Youtube’s treating you so if you feel to make a certain decision, we will be behind you

Anders O.H Moberg

You're a legend Owen. Been following you since the very early days (Still have my suspicions of your origins). Every video you've made has always succeeded in one of three ways 1) Laugh my hole off 2) Learn something surprisingly interesting 3) Stomach Scottish people a wee bit more. Except for the Gears of War video. You didn't even show off cover mechanics. That was a bit shit in fairness.

Eoin

the infinite review has been a ton of fun and a lot of your videos have been genuinely unexpected and interesting. I've been a huge fan of yours for maybe 8 years now and I don't think your numbers are reflective of the quality of your content at all. Hope you keep your chin up and keep doing your thing because myself and many of my friends think you're an incredibly talented and charming creator. I recently cancelled most of my patreon subscriptions to try and save a little more money and yours was among the very few I still maintain. I hope you keep getting to do this for as long as it's fun for you.

gadabout

It must be gutting to see the numbers slowly dwindle but I’m sure I speak for other patrons when I say it’s not a quality thing at all. The videos are great. They really are. I love the podcast a lot too, but with the videos you have this really unique way of getting your style and humour across visually that I haven’t seen anywhere else. Your stuff gives me more of that feeling of “remembering it on a bus days later and laughing to myself” than I’ve genuinely ever had. I know “keep up the good work” isn’t necessarily helpful in this situation but honestly man, don’t worry about changing anything and try not to doubt the stuff you’re doing too much. It’s great. I imagine things like this can happen to content creators a lot and it must be difficult, but hopefully you’ll see it start to trend upwards again soon. I’ll stop being painfully sincere in a moment but honestly Owen: thanks a lot for the podcast and the videos. Looking forward to watching and rewatching (and relistening) to your stuff for years to come (…Apart from the Green Jelly story) x

Lukas

Hud er' chappin' min, best videos on YouTube.

Alan Cameron

Your videos are honestly some of the best on Youtube (in my opinion!), and it's a shame they're not getting the attention they deserve. The podcasts you do are also great, I keep coming back and relistening to them. I'll be happy to continue supporting you for years to come!

Alex

It's a real shame more people don't watch, honestly. The stuff you make is great, and so's the podcast.

Max S

more than happy to play a small part in what you do, and i hope you keep grounded and passionate about doing it. no doubt its easy to get lost in analytics and pressures about productivity, but art isnt valued by the number of eyes that glaze over it, and for whatever my dumb-ass opinion is worth your stuff is the best its been. you got something real going here, something sincere and well-crafted, and i respect that more than anything else getting put out in this industry rn.

I keep posting your work to r/ Ireland but everyone thinks that I am you and I'm posting my work. I adore your work so I felt I should do my bit.

Ruairi McElhone

Its genuinely so upsetting how little recognition you get on YouTube, and I’m so glad you have a patreon so we can support you. Seeing a new episode of The Infinite Review getting posted makes my whole week.

u da man owen keep it up big man

I appreciate I'm speaking within a bubble but your videos are one of the few things I don't just retweet but instantly give a couple of friends groups a heads up about "there's a new Infinite Review" and all of them will respond with some comment about looking forward to watching it that evening. fwiw you're not the only person I've heard worried about Youtube numbers and I doubt, even taking my love for the videos out of it, it's down to "they're not as good". I appreciate though that doesn't help your worries all that much but I'm happy you're aware that regardless what Mr Choob says about your videos and podcasts there's an extremely dedicated fanbase of what you do that isn't going anywhere and is always up for more. Also if it's a money worry, just rinse us for some cash on merch or something. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd wear an Infinite Review t shirt.

Ben Sime

Signed up to Patreon solely to support your channel. Easily one of the best channels I follow. Big video game fan myself, but I think your funniest Infinite Reviews are of random shit like tarot and your attic. Honestly though, as long as you enjoy making these videos, and you have at least one friend who enjoys watching them, its worth it.

The algorithm seems to be such a cruel mistress, and I feel for you being at its mercy. The only thing I can think of that may affect your chance of videos appearing on recommendations would be the numbering of each episode in the title. Maybe it's a case of being in a series, it wouldn't recommend a video far into it? I say this basing on nothing but guesses though. That aside, thank you so much for continually making the great stuff you do. Each episode - video and podcast - ends up being a new treat that I return to re-watch more frequently than I'd care to number. If it's of any comfort in regards to your quality of videos, I've shared your content with many pals and each one has got hooked. There's always a delightful chain of "IT'S OUT" messages shared with each other on a day you upload. Thank you again so much for continuing with the series. As always, looking forward to more.

Ciaran Stubbs Parker

Your channel and guide dogs are the only thing that have ever made me want to donate my hard earned, and it's worth every penny. I still have people who I've shown your videos to whining at me that they can't watch the Mel B video to this day, that's the kind of impact you're having. All the best mate.

The Infinite Review is one of my favorite bits of YouTube. It's so full of heart. So much content feels forced for the algorithm but the Review never has. The podcast feels the same. I look forward to the chats with other YouTubers and friends every month.

MegaSlippers

I spend an incredible amount of time on YouTube and watch hundreds of channels. Out of all of them you're one of the 3 I give money to on Patreon. Great stuff and keep it up!

Blasegg

I just realised I've been supporting with $3 while on the $1 tier. This is the standard of your viewership, Owen.

KMS

I'm really saddened to hear that the incredibly high standard of quality on the Infinite Review hasn't translated into the views it absolutely deserves, but for what little it's worth, each video in the series has been wonderful and you've got a creative output under your belt that most video people could only dream of. You're a star, Owen, and Thank You!!!!

Woodaba

Thank you so much for the work and effort you put into your videos and podcast, Owen. Your content has always given me immense joy and happiness since the Mean Bean days 😊 I don’t know how many times I had the Victor Activision episode on repeat when I was younger and I’d be afraid to count but listening to your banter has always put a smile on my face.

I reckon there’d be double the amount of Patrons if Richie didn’t keep sending the podcast to every person on the planet. Love you Owen, the best video maker on the internet and a genuine inspiration to pretty much everything I make.

Thomas Amey

You’re alright, you are. I was going to say something about small, enthusiastic audiences being just as good as large, passive ones but I suppose they don’t pay for Lamborghinis and designer dogs.

Boggy

Like everyone else is echoing, you're videos are amazing, and personally I'm sad they don't have more views and aren't more popular as well. Personally, I hope you never stop making your vids, cause I'll keep watching them. Keep up the amazing work <3

Superasil

Genuinely my favourite YouTuber as a person. Keep on driving man!

Thank you to you and yours for making me smile. Rusty crows fly together 🦅

drewb

The infinite review is solidly my favourite youtube channel. I'd hate to lose you to the algorithm.

KMS

Owen you're a sparkling gem amid the hellscape of YouTube, we relish and cherish all content you grind out

For what it's worth: pretty much every time a new video comes out I wait and watch it with three other fans. So based on that sample you can multiply your viewing figures by 4 x

Jack Corscadden

There’s nothing else like the Infinite Review series or podcast - which unfortunately means it falls outside the current Internet zeitgeist. Even if it’s only noticed by a small niche of people, those people’s lives are better because it’s out there. Thank you Owen!

Harrison Preusse

Aw Shucks

Zegher Van Turcoy

Love ya Owen. We really do appreciate all the work you put into your projects and can’t wait to see what you have in store for the future!

Pixelchuu

Love you Owen xoxoxox

Love the videos and adore the podcasts Owen, here's to many more!

jimjam707

The start of this post spooked me hard Edit: I just want to add on to what everyone else said below. I rewatch your vids + relisten to the podcast constantly and shill you as often as I can. You’re easily my favourite youtuber (if not general content creator).
