ETS 2/ATS Lighting Preview 6 - The Reason Why There Will Be No Sunlight

The reason why I don't want to add sunlight, it looks like trash without PBR textures and small details, it belongs to garbage bin :/

Even the reason there is a lot of details on foliage because of SSS (screen space shadows), it looks a lot worse without SSS.

** Do not mind the sky, I just didn't prepare exposure settings, its not important.

This is a lighting mod to improve lighting in ETS 2 and ATS. It is replacing default lighting system with modern lighting methods. Coming soon...

* I'm planning to release a test version after I clean up and optimize it.

* Its not released yet. This is just a simple preview to demonstrate lighting changes.

* Currently using simple static weather/sky system, going to change later

* Some surfaces are not ready yet, their colors might look weird

* Motion blur intensity 2 enabled

That's exactly what I was going to say! :] I've never worked with PBR as I've only created mods for pretty old games that only use diffuse mapping, but from what I understand PBR textures are made up of multiple maps, not just diffuse mapping (as PBR requires an accurate description of the physical properties of the material - that's the cool thing about it). I'm also sure there are tools to help create maps based on original textures or even AI solutions, but it's probably a matter of balancing the amount of work and the quality of the result. Most likely a lot of things will have to be refined by hand, and this could really be shared by the community.

As I myself tend to be one of the technically clueless, I think it's a pretty good question. Doing a monotonous job with a considerable scope all by yourself can be quite annoying. Would it perhaps be an idea to divide up this kind of stupid work in the community over several shoulders? In mechanical engineering, for example, it is common practice to outsource series production. By means of prefabricated batch files, a PC could be kept busy with serial tasks for nights on end :-)

Now I'm wondering how it would look with PBR textures, because without them it, as the guys here said, looks pretty good! :D By the way, what is the main difficulty of converting textures to PBR? Is it a monotonous job? Does every possible texture have to be converted to PBR or just the road/vegetation?

Kkkkkk

Josimar Santos

to be honest it still looks great

Akbar Hatta

Eu achei muito bom assim. Eu realmente gostaria de ver o céu ensolarado como está no vídeo.

I understand that it doesn’t look as good as it could with full PBR textures, that being said it still looks a hell of a lot better than vanilla! I think it would be worth having/adding.

Well there goes my excitement hopefully we can use png on top to fix boring cloudy sky 24-7..sunny sky looks fine doubt it’ll take that much extra power to run imo, turn your graphics up and remove that dof it’ll make it better by miles…

Zach Attack94

Probably not because the way it handles lighting helps a lot which is not possible with default lighting

Snowy Moon

Is it possible for the trees to appear like your trees (with better shadows and textures/colours) without your lighting plug-in?

Romero Ocaranza

Wow man, looks so good!! Waiting for release!

Mwams

What :D

Snowy Moon

This is just default foliage without any mods

Snowy Moon

Is it possible to enhance just the trees with vanilla /mod lighting?

Romero Ocaranza

Is the foliage included in your mod or from a different mod?
