Patreon Letters: A Question For $5+ Subscribers

Hi folks,

Jackson here with a little update about the Patreon Letters. We brought this up in the discord but we want to throw it to everyone on the $5 tier and up, just to get as much feedback as possible. We are thinking about changing how we do the letters, but don't neccesarily know the best direction to go, or where folks would prefer our effort directed.

First thing's first: we are very busy, and work hard on Abnormal Mapping. On any given week, we have at minimum three podcasts to record, sometimes one of us will have as many as five. This means, as I'm sure you've seen, the letters are always the first thing to slip. And not just because we don't have time to write them. Often the only things we've watched or have takes on are things we have specifically prepared for podcasts, which leads to a lot of letters that are more introspective and aimless than works of criticism, which is generally the appeal of the network.

With this in mind, we are thinking about cutting the letters down by half, from once a week to twice a month, one from each of us. The idea is that we'd stop being late every week, the releases should be  more consistent, and the letters more substantial in content.

We're not 100% sold on it, however, and so we come to you to ask not just if this is something you'd be okay with, but also more generally your feedback on the $5 tier. Do you enjoy the letters? Which types of letters do you enjoy? Is the regular schedule important to you, is the topic important, do you not care and simply listen to the podcasts? Any other feedback you might have is useful.

Please be honest!

We would rather know people's true feelings on the tier, and how they'd like to before deciding how we are going to change it. We don't want to do something assuming people are fine with it and find out the opposite, similarly we don't want to overextend ourselves if there's no benefit to the audience.

And with that, I suppose: sound off in the comments! We always get notifications for new patreon comments but if you'd rather something more discursive and direct, you can bring your feedback to the discord as well.

TL;DR

Comments

as much as i love the letters i would rather get ones you genuinely care about writing and can put time into less often than get whatever ones that feel like an obligation more often

Dropping the letters down to even once per month between you would be fine by me! I love them a lot, but I give you $5 because I want to support your work generally more than I crave weekly letter content.
