The Burnt Out Barber Shop
Added 2017-04-27 18:03:07 +0000 UTCHey guys. Been toying with the idea of retooling the Patreon completely. After doing damn near a hundred of these same types of videos and not really making any headway in expanding in a way that lets us get to a better location and more varied characters, ol Manwell is pretty burnt out on running the barber shop. I'm gonna switch to a format that'll just be posting a video when I actually have an idea I'll enjoy doing instead of just coughing up something every week for the sake of just having something. Seems the more I've tried to keep things consistent on YouTube the less the channel has grown.
According to my YouTube analytics only about 8% of my subscribers actually watch my new videos and less than .001% of all viewers actually share them. So I've come to the conclusion that Listening Point is either a guilty pleasure or its just so mediocre for the average person that no one cares to share it.
I'm sure I'll still have a new video up once a month. So I think I'm going to end up lowering the maximum support tier to $5. Which will scratch any new names off the videos but give everyone that supports access to the Mp3. Those of you that wish to remain supporting at the 10 and 15 dollar levels are of course more than welcome to do so, and will keep your names on all videos moving forward until such a time that you lower or withdraw your pledge.
In short. I need a break from VBS and I don't want you guys to be paying for nothing.

Know it's way late to comment on this, but for me the videos are neither. I love this, and I've tried to share them, but my family thinks I'm crazy :/ Guess it's just certain kind of people who can appreciate XD

2017-06-03 21:20:50 +0000 UTCI also think it's not a problem to add more videos of the same stylists, these are or at least most of them are really solid characters that can be developed as such, we can learn new things about them and can learn new stories. but maybe I just exaggerated a bit..

2017-06-03 19:10:22 +0000 UTCI started watching the barber shop's videos recently and these are really special and original, some of them are extremely good and some a bit less, but it is really a matter of taste. I personally think that the channel has a lot of potential, and can get a lot more subscribers by doing some few basic things. I think that the channel should be cleaner, that it will only or at least mainly contain and be about the barber shop videos, and that there will be an introducing sound video of the barber shop on the channel's homepage. one of the most important things is to change the channel's photo's (profile and theme pic I think) to something more iconic that will represent the things the channel has to offer. something that will make the people encountering the channel think "That looks interesting and professional, I should try see what videos it have!"... the channel name can also be more iconic... something like "listening point stylists" or "listening point barber shop asmr"... The thing is that the videos I'm listening to feel really professional but the first impression of the channel is not of a channel whom even producing videos. I know that this is your channel do decide what to do with it and that I'm a bit of a pushover, but I really feel like this channel should and can get lots more views and subscribers.

2017-06-03 18:56:37 +0000 UTCIt's a shame, i also enjoyed the regular updates, but i cannot say i would represent the numbers. I'm hardly the sharing type of person. As for the asmr, i do listen to your video for the ASMR more than anything else but i have a feeling that most people who do are also not the sharing type heh.

2017-04-28 02:01:10 +0000 UTCYeah it's tough to find that sweet spot. My straight up ASMR content is among the least popular stuff on my channel. The audience says one thing but the numbers say the total opposite.

2017-04-27 23:17:29 +0000 UTCAll I can say is that I'll miss the regular drops of content, and I look forward to what you produce in the future. Don't feel disheartened because the effort didn't pay off in quite the way it should have, you've done an amazing job so far, and I'm genuinely impressed with the hard work. Until next time!

2017-04-27 22:43:21 +0000 UTCThe characters are fun, the jokes are cheesy, but it just needs a little more bias towards setting off those reactions for the listener. One of my personal favourites was the second Debbie outing where she pretty much rubbed her face on the head of the listener. It was a silly and pretty left field move, but it got me, it was unexpected and personal space invading, in the good way. That kind of spontaneous and slightly absurd scripting made the VBS brilliant, to me, and while you've turned out some great content since, it hasn't quite done the same thing.

2017-04-27 22:41:17 +0000 UTCBut if you think this is the best way to go forward, then sure, I'm behind you all the way. Although... I think you've definitely hit on something, but not in the negative light you're spinning it in. The Virtual Barber Shop is a little ridiculous, as the whole ASMR genre goes, but that's why a lot of people have enjoyed it so far. I think the issue isn't that it's sometimes on the absurd side, it's more that, saving a few notable, and pretty awesome, exceptions, there's not as much ASMR content in these compared to others.
