The Prom I Never Had

Having a daughter was always a hand full. Mikayson was always daddy’s little girl and got what she wanted, but lately I had become embarrassed of her behavior. Her mother and I spent over $2,000 between the “prom dress of her dreams” , shoes, facial treatments, making a non-refundable salon appointment, and other things she needed for prom only for her to announce that she was not going the day before the big event. According to her, the relationship she had with her boyfriend was over and he caught him kissing a girl at school she despised. She had also cut ties with her bestie for typical tœn drama that had escalated beyond repair. Mikayson told us she would rather spend the night in her bedroom making TikTok videos or just chilling in bed watching D!sney Plus or another streaming service. Her mother and I were very disappointed. Mikayson showed little regret or remorse. We didn’t blame her for the boyfriend situation, but not attending at all just because of some tœn drama and showing us no sympathy with not even a thank you for spending so much money on her prom night made us feeling unloved. Her mother was Prom Queen at her school back in the day and tried comforting her to no avail. I mentioned to her that this was Senior Prom and she would never get the chance again. Told her the story about how I tried asking out my high school crush, Courtney, to the prom but was instantly rejected so I just played GTA: San Andreas all night. Mikayson just rolled her eyes and said, “There is all the stuff. You can just go if that’s what you want!” Before storming upstairs to her bedroom.

I thought about what she had just said. Other than wearing a girl’s costume during a young sleepover we had ONLY ONE TIME, I had never crossed dressed before. Now, here was my chance to not only dress like a princess, but also attend to prom. My wife heard the conversation and once I convinced her it would put the dress to use, she replied: “If that’s what will make you happy…” Since we already spent a few thousand dollars, what harm would another $500 at a feminization studio do? I searched for the closeted one online and say there was only ONE session available the morning of prom night. Must be a busy time of year for them. Turning a 40-something year old man into a young lady would be no easy taste, but the girls at the feminization studio put me at ease saying they were very experienced with this type of procedure. I was assured that whatever body hair was shared, it would grow back in no time unless I wanted to be waxed. Figured since I was already there, having most of my body hair waxed would be for the best. They spent a good hour putting makeup on my face and using contouring methods that would make me look like my daughter’s twin. The breast form glue they used would hold my identical cups for at least three days. I just needed it to get me through prom and the after prom party so maybe I could just keep the human hair wig that was attached to my head on for just a few more days and tease Mikayson about the awesome time at prom. Having fake lashes glued on was the most uncomfortable part (next to tucking) since I was flicking my eyes so often and not used to having them on my face. But I also cried after seeing the final look while wearing my (formerly Mikayson’s) dress on!

My wife wanted to ignore it, but said she would treat me just like Mikayson that night and took plenty photos of me smiling. The real Mikayson was now excited for me and texted all her friends (even the one she had a fight with) to let them know “I” was coming after all. Not one person, even the closest of closest friends could tell the difference after I practiced speaking like her all day and night. I didn’t bother talking to her ex-boyfriend who I had met before, instead… I seemed to gather the attention of other boys who wanted to dance with me! What a magically night attending the prom I never had.
