AAG - Chapter 56!

It's finally ready for your reading pleasure, my friends! My apologies to everyone I did not respond to this past week. I figured you'd prefer that I work on the next chapter, rather than immediately respond to your comments. If was I wrong, my apologies. Enjoy the chapter, thank you as always for your support, and let's discuss in the comments!! :-)

AAG - Chapter 56!

Comments

I will say really curious how Pressman will go about this as while he hates Gothic with a passion, is also against the the Federation being banned from using cloaks just as much

War sage

Please do lol

Everyone loves messing with Wesley!! Lol. I'm going to try to work that in again. That'd be hard to make happen believably, but maybe a cameo or two is possible. Glad you liked the HP stuff. That was literally just a spur of the moment thing rather than something I had planned ahead of time. It seems people really liked it, which makes me happy. Thank you for your support!

Joseph Orlando

He's not going to be having a good time. Yes! And what's funny is that scene was spur of the moment. I was writing a walk and talk scene with Deanna and I thought about how cool it'd be if Gothic was recognized for his work. It's always been a goal of mine to show how Gothic is effecting the Star Trek universe in ways big and small. This is a big one, but he didn't realize that it would have more of an effect than filling his pockets with latinum. Wesley needs to grow up, lol. I'll see if I can keep that gag going. Thank you for your longtime support!!

Joseph Orlando

I love the idea! The only issue is that it would be hard to shoehorn that in. We see Klingon children so infrequently in the shows, so when would Gothic realistically encounter any? They aren't on Klingon military vessels. Maybe I could have a Klingon transport ship come to DS9 that had Klingon kids on it? I'll have to think about it. They'd like his Tron and Call of Duty or Mass Effect holonovels, for sure, not sure if I could convincingly say they like Harry Potter, BUT it would be hilarious to have Klingon kids avada kedavraing everyone in sight like little murder hobos. Hmmm.... Yeah, I'm hesitant to mix the two shows together like that, especially because I would have a hard time justifying Beverly and Deanna joining the crew of DS9. As you might be able to tell as a longtime reader and patron, my writing is based on what is reasonable and what is realistic, one thing leading to another. Many authors write as if the Rule of Cool is their guiding force and they pay only lip service to the suspension of disbelief. It'd be cool, but would it be realistic? Thank you for your longtime support of my writing, Jeff!

Prejudice is a powerful thing. Pressman is no fan of the Treaty of Algeron, that's canon, but he also hates Gothic as a Augment. So he's going to have a tough time here deciding which will win out in the end.

Joseph Orlando

I'm glad you liked the chapter. I view the Romulans like the Soviet Union/Russia who were small, but mighty, with a very sophisticated, ruthless, and effective intelligence outfit. So I figured they'd want to keep their operatives' bodies out of the hands of their enemies as that would preserve their plausible deniability. I view the stasis technology as metabolic stasis, rather than some kind of temporal stasis, so I don't think it would work on a warp core. Gothic is going to have to think long and hard if he wants to monetize and thus let that technology out there in the world. Gothic is profit oriented, but unlike the GODS net, he knows that letting others use the stasis technology means it will essentially be out there in the world for anyone to use as he won't be able to stop parties from reverse engineering it. He'd also be worried about people realizing that it is based on Minosian technology and thus realizing that Minos and Gothic have a connection. It doesn't negate it, but when Gothic remade the FT from the original ship Q gave him, the effect was weakened, even though he preserved as much of the ship as possible when he built the new FT. In this case, the weakened effect plus the very attention grabbing battle have had a cumulative effect and Picard noticed things. I'm glad you liked the political/legal side of this chapter. I know many want the flashy battles and technology every chapter, but I really wanted to flesh out this world and Gothic's life. This is an SI fic, and a focus on his life, rather than canon episodes, is extremely important to me, even if that means that not every chapter is going to have some flashy battle or events. Pressman spent some political capital to include himself in the testing. The irony is that Gothic knows Pressman feels the Treaty of Algeron was the worst mistake the Federation ever made and has held them back for decades. So Pressman is going to have to talk out both sides of his mouth. You're right, they wouldn't be happy, but thankfully those were only a few elements in the Federation that were willing to do that. Most still realize that bowing down to the Romulans' will, when they are so obviously in the wrong, would be a recipe for disaster. I'm so glad to hear that! That scene literally came out of the blue; it wasn't something I planned. I had a walking and talking scene I wanted to write, like is so common to Star Trek, and I thought about all the kids on the Enterprise who might be excited by a famous author like Gothic. J.K. Rowling experienced that, so I thought why not have Gothic get some love too! Thank you for your longtime support, Fleet Admiral!!

Joseph Orlando

The Wesley gag was a big hit with a lot of folks, so I might need to work that in again. Pressman is an asshole, that's for sure. Little does he know that it's only Gothic's intervention that kept him out of prison. You're welcome! Thank you for supporting my writing!

Joseph Orlando

Thank you! Yeah, the torment of Wesley was a big hit. I'll have to see if I can work that in again as a running gag for this fic.

Joseph Orlando

Also I forgot got say nice work on the ending Wesley must suffer lol

War sage

Another chapter done! Hehe! Wesley... bwahahahhaha! Also, Q is a good wingman! Pressman is so aptly named and almost makes me think he is a dominion founder trying to remove a large piece from the board to make invasion easier. Guess we will see! Thank you for the fun chapter, the political intrigue, the cloak and dagger politics and I cannot wait for MR Pressman to eat crow!

James Wise

Another great chapter, love the image by the way. Oh I love the little return to espionage in this chapter, gotta say that's a nice little trick with the celler degradation Damn Gothic had to reveal another of his tricks...curious if he would be approached by Starfleet or the Federation itself on the stasis tech as it has so much potential not just in the medical field but in other sciences but engineering aswell as image if that work on a core breach. Well the naruto anime has a point, even a corpse can give a lot of useful information. Gothic mindset is so perfect for intelligence work. So wait does plot armor negate the notice me not effect of Gothic ship? Riker lack of intelligence concerns me at times. I really like the political/legal aspect of the chapter as it gives it depth. I feel like Pressman is using a whole of political capital/influence on this as I have no doubt he was for turning him over to the Romulans or remove the GODS network from considering, hell I bet it took alot for Pressman to get himself to witness the testing. I bet Pressman is going to show with somthing like a galaxy class or large task force. I want to say I'm surprised that the Federation was close to turning over Gothic but I'm really not, though not sure th Bajoran government or people would appreciate the Federation arresting and turning over to the Romulans the head of their navy but a resistance hero and that's not count his assistance with the rebuilding with his funds, regardless their not going to be happy with the Federation sacrificing Gothic just cause the Federation is worried about the Romulans feelings OK I have to admit I loved the bit with the kids it was awesome.

War sage

Wasn't implying he should show rage, anger, or even any real emotion at all. He's supposed to be an ally and at nearly every turn the Federation snubs their nose up at him. That's not counting the fact that Pressman somehow getting to be the person who goes to the test is beyond absurd at this point, someone in Starfleet really wants to see how far they can tweak Gothic's nose.

Sif

The reaction to the children seeing him now. I kind want to see Klingons to react to him to his novels as well? I kind of think that was Q was his handiwork. I kind of wish for Beverly and Deanna they join his crew, but I know that it’s not going to happen

jeff027

Awesome example. I really like that instead of being a rage beast he's using his intelligence to make them all look stupid and incompetent. Especially Pressman. That guy's a tool. He basically does what he wants, supports Section 31 when he has scraps or non critical data to sell, and continues to build his technology base behind everyone's backs 😆. It's fantastic. And he's doing it in multiple universes at the same time 😆 🤣. Hell in TWD universe he's literally going to BE starfleet. It'll be interesting to see how that develops.

Fortunis

Pressman is about to ruin himself I think... lol Funny having the kids act like kids of our time with HP, the progress of deprogramming the people has begun. Poor Wesley. Page 11 How you ever received that award -Have

maddsloth II

I fucking love when Wesley pops up. I hate that character and the actor to about the same degree. On the subject of Beverly and Deanna, I know it'd probably fuck with the timeline but I'm honestly hoping they join his crew. They're both amazing at their jobs and also amazingly hot 😆. The Harry Potter stuff was fun. It's fantastic that the kids love it. All in all a great chapter.

Fortunis

This is a fantastic discussion, and I'm glad it's happening. I'm a white Italian guy. Italians in the US were the 'other' for a long time and discriminated against. I can't say I experience that now as a kid of the 80s. Mr. Mouse is right in that Gothic, while angry about his treatment to some extent, knows he can't show it lest he become the angry Augment like Khan who seeks conquest and war. There would be consequences. Black people experience what Gothic is going through. They're not allowed to be angry either. It's also important to remember that Gothic didn't grow up as an Augment experiencing that discrimination and bigotry. IT's all very new to him and most of his time in this new dimension was spent fighting on Bajor where he was lauded as a hero and was granted power and position, trust and adulation. Bajor doesn't have that history of bigotry with Augments. Lauren, on the other hand, has experienced bigotry her whole life. She was practically incarcerated because of it for virtually her whole life. She's only just gained her freedom. After this discussion, I think I need to explore this in a future chapter a bit more. So thank you guys for this. While I was writing this response I remember a really interesting interview Levar Burton gave and he talked about this subject. https://youtube.com/shorts/tBwHQ0_whvs?si=tViCVrGwUq1M8biT

Joseph Orlando

I'm so glad you loved the chapter! A lot of politics this chapter, so I wanted to introduce some lighthearted stuff, which led to the Harry Potter stuff, then the sexy times in the holodeck, followed by Wesley showing up. It's been so long since I messed with him that I had to throw it in. The last time was like chapter 4! Can you believe it? That guy was due. Thank you, my friend, for your long-term support of this fic as Fleet Admiral!

Joseph Orlando

Thank you! The addition of all the Harry Potter stuff came to me when I started thinking about all the children on the Enterprise, children who have resources available to them as Federation citizens and access to multiple holodecks. Bajoran children on DS9, of which there aren't a ton, are not going to be able access Gothic's works, so I wanted to show how HP in particular, was being received. Yes, I love a good foil and Pressman is going to be an antagonist who will hopefully bring out some interesting things. Thank you for your support!

Joseph Orlando

TFTC, love the ongoing expansion of his holonovels, can't wait for the fallout from Pressman and the Romulans

Mr Mouse

On the one hand, I get the impulse, on the other hand, the most likely response to putting his foot down is accusations of megalomania, and the greater good It's like that one post, “How can you not be angry?” “I am angry,” the werewolf said. “But unlike you, I don’t have the luxury of showing it without being called a monster. Without someone taking it as a sign of proof that I need to be put down like a rabid dog, that I’m just like what the stories tell you.” “But everyone gets angry… that’s human.” “Up until the point when you’re not human.”

Mr Mouse

a really great chapter as always! i love it and i cant wait to to read next months chapter when it comes out. and your torment of Wesley at the end had me in tears lol

maben00

At some point he needs to put his foot down, it's amazing how they don't realize they are all bigots. And are encouraging a bigot.
