survey: x reasons (not) to learn to code (as a designer)

Dear Creative Coders, 👋

I hope you are doing well! It's been a few years now since https://flexiblevisualsystems.info/">Martin Lorenz and I first talked about our joint book project "Coding Systems". Admittedly, it's a process that has taken longer than we thought. But through our daily exchanges, reading texts together and, in any case, through our online and offline workshops for designers from all over the world, we have now come very close to our goal of a joint and interlocking teaching. We are now in a phase where we are actually working on texts. We have already collected some great projects from participants of our workshops, which will be shown in the publication. Interviews with renowned experts from various fields are also planned. In short, it's coming together and we are both totally passionate about taking the project to the next stage!

I am currently working on a chapter that aims to clarify the role of creative coding in the field of visual design. It will come as no surprise to you that I think it makes perfect sense to give concentrated attention to this wonderful realm of ideas. But to get a more neutral view on the matter, I recently had an idea: I would like to involve the community and find out what is going on in the minds of my students, but also in those of peripheral designers, artists and creatives in general, right now, shortly after the massive noise around AI. I'm currently collecting arguments for and against the question of why it makes sense to learn programming now.

I have prepared a survey for this and I would be delighted if you would take 2-4 minutes to take part. When I have finished the first texts, I will post them here for discussion. I'm really looking forward to your feedback.

1000 thanks and have a nice weekend!
