Dine Out & Fixing It. Again.

As I continue to learn to mod Sims 4 with the luxury you have given me through your support, I grow as a programmer and pick up some new tricks. I'm coming back to Dine Out Reloaded to polish the experience. Players are still reporting issues receiving meals in Dine Out and that is unacceptable.

I've already discovered a few things that cause this. Mostly due to waiters resetting. I've implemented some fixes in the third version that will help a lot with these problems.

But since I'm here, I'd like to add some new features! Let's make Dine Out better overall. One example is to bribe the host to get your meal prioritized. It's also a little nod to the fact so many players' meals are not delivered. I would also like to investigate being able to use DO staff for things other than restaurants, like just bars. So you can make your own little pub.

I want to offer some options. For example, to make 5 star establishments cost more, so that high ranking restaurants can be more profitable. Going to one as a player will also be more expensive. It's just silly how little meals cost in the grand scheme of things. I think that going to a nice restaurant should be a want and give satisfaction points and a long-lasting happy buff, depending on the expense/quality of the meal. LMS's no bill when invited will also not work with my mod, so I have to do this myself.

I want to hear which side of Dine Out you like most. Let's play pretend and assume everything works lol. I also want to hear ideas for either of the 2 modes and new features you'd like to see implemented.

This sounds great!

I can't wait to download it!

Daniela Rodrigues

Can one download it yet?

This is the work of yours that I care most about, since I dearly love taking my sims out to eat at a variety of restaurants- and it's so broken. So I am eager to hear what you have decided and will be working on to improve that.

Sam D.

Thank you for all that you do! Does the current version of it work for patch 1.91 or is this poll indicating that I should hold off?

Alisha Gamble

Haha, this is true... I think we all do!

Sally

No he has way too many scruples for EA ;)

I agree. Why can’t there be a bartender upstairs? We should be able to hire more than one. As for LMS Don’t pay bill when invited mod, there is apparently a limitation that our Sims cannot choose what to eat if they are not paying the bill. I don’t like that restriction, so I never used that mod.

Yes, if you have a bar on site you have the option to use it yourself or hire ststaff. Sometimes I keep my restaurant open for over 34 hours using cheats and when I hire a bartender he/she won't show up. Sometimes if I keep trying eventually one will. If my restaurant owner is tending the bar when and if they show up, sometimes they will take a seat at the bar or get mad and leave. Usually you can recognize them as they are dressed in a work uniform with an apron. Sometimes the option to hire staff is blurry and a pop-up message says that there is already one on the lot, but you won't be able to see anyone dressed as an employee anywhere at all. My complaint is that I have another bar upstairs and when I try to hire staff the game won't let me if I've already hired a bartender for downstairs. I wish there existed a tweak that would enable me to hire bartenders separately,, one for each bar. Also, if they would stay and tend bar as long as I want, and not leave unless I ask them to.

I really like the idea of higher priced restaurants. I struggle with not havig a super high end restaurant for proposals, or anniversaries, etc. And yes, I would like the functionality of not having to pay the bill when invited! Also don't restaurants have a bartender present if you have a bar located on site? I forget.

Could you do different modules or versions - one for players that are really focused on the business end and one for just the dining experience, with the capacity to have both. I obviously have no idea how this works, I just know modules really are great with mods, so you aren't cluttering up with things you don't need.

Sam D.

You, Carl, are a breath of fresh air. Please get a job at EA and show them how to do it!!

Sally

How do i join the discord?

I think it would be great if you worked on your restaurant and it has a great reputation that has some buff or popularity tied to it. Also it would be great if you worked on it you cna hav ethen run independent for a while. Then maybe get called back in to run it for upkeep.

I would love to have multiple restaurants and have them make money while my sim is away.

I don't know if it's possible to take table size into account, but my servers always seat couples at 4-top tables, and then when a group comes in, there's only 2-top tables left, so they have to wait because you can't manually re-seat the guests at appropriate tables. I wonder if there's a way to have servers put down place settings for guests like your sims can in their homes, and tie those place settings to the guests (maybe rotate through the place setting colors to designate parties that are together?) so that if you need to move guests, you move their place setting, and they'll sit at its new location? That and the cook that won't go in the kitchen to work without cheat resetting them are easily my biggest frustrations with running a restaurant.

This might be a tall order. I love the work you have done with dine out. I keep downloading and deleteing mods all the time since I always har missing some feature. Littlemissams live in businesses does a whole lot but seem to not be compatible with your mods. And Lovelyladys comment about spending 10 hours to get a meal is a decent point. How bout start small? Running a small coffee shop, just ordering coffee and a slice of some fast created food. Running a bar with bardisk and coffeemaker. But the staff wasting time is the biggest issue to me. Noone is that distracted at work, and retail stores. The customers also needs 15 minutes to decide what to get. And in retail its hours

I like to do both, but mostly because I noticed restaurants most suck if not managed by a player (experimental meals being cooked by a chef with low cooking skills, for example). Things run pretty smoothly with your mod, but one thing I've noticed is that as an owner every time I open the restaurant there is one table that won't ever pay the bill and leave, no matter how long I wait. So I end up just having to close and take the loss of ingredient costs.

Marie Klopfenstein

I play both - I think making sure Dine Out is as best functioning as someone dining out should come first, and then make sure that playing as a owner or employee should be second. Finally, anything involving making sure those attached with the restaurant are properly simulated would be good.

Starsickle

THANK YOU! I would love it if Dine Out worked properly, as both staff and as a dining Sim. As others have said, I've also given up trying to run a restaurant in game as its so broken. I think bribing the staff to ensure your meals come out timely (or at all) and charging more for high end restaurants makes sense. Maybe having higher end restaurants require reservations or make them harder to get a table at if you're not a celebrity/bribing the host would be a nice feature.

RighteousCookies

I have the problem with guests not receiving their meal. But only the ones which asked me as owner for a suggestion. Everything else runs very good with Ur mod. I'm not even sure if it's your mod's fault or EA's. But with your Mod I noticed many improvements, as restaurant owner and as a guest. Thank you for it <3

nikkinvin

I love your approach of deepening and enrichening the overrall gameplay experience, as opposed to most modders who focus on adding a singular function that Sims is currently lacking, which just ends up feeling like a user-created Game Pack. I've been dithering over purchasing Dine Out for a long time, but been put off by how broken everyone says it is.. Really appreciate your efforts Carl.. 👍

Lee Mitchell

I want to do both.

Pookeyw

I would seriously love it if my sim could own a pub. Aside from that, I love running and dining at the restaurants I build. Even if I've got a fully trained staff, the food still takes forever. Thank you so much for all the amazing things you do Carl

DaniDaring

I love building restaurants but not running them. 😄 I will love visiting those restaurants and not spending 10 hours to get one dang meal!

LovelyLady

I love the idea of owning and running a restaurant but I always end up giving up because the pack is so broken. I like having my sims have a night out too, but if that fails it's only mildly disappointing. Can always eat dinner at home and say we tried. It's way worse when I have a whole "restauranteur" storyline planned for a sim that I can't actually execute because the game won't cooperate. So, thank you for fixing this - on both sides!

Lauren

The pub thing and paying (and being paid) more for 5 star establishments sounds like a really fun idea - always put a bar in my sims’ restaurant but end up having to pay to hire a bar tender

Jacky

Love all your work :)

Jacky

First of all, you're so awesome at this! I've been loving playing with your mods. For me, the biggest downer is the undelivered meals so that being worked on is great news! The other extras you mentioned sound awesome so I can't ask for more. Thanks so much!
