I appreciate your hard work & commentary !!! Like your mom said “keep doing it, it’s (very) important!”

Haylee Duncan

It’s April 17th 2025. This video is so grounding. I will keep coming back. Looking inward and fighting inward and protecting our communities so that they can see another day, is my priority.

Greta Kcomt

Yes, we will continue to exist, and we will be okay.

Ketty

I am not able to access this video. I am experiencing a weird blocking thing on youtube that I don’t understand

MargaretCalazans

Late to the convo here, but as our lord and savior Beyoncé once said “you won’t break my soul”

Carolyn Westrick

Thanks Matt. Appreciate the commentary during both our highs and lows. 🥰 The best we can all do the next 4 years is to care for love and protect ‘family’ - whatever that is to each person.

Thomas Bottom

I love Hannah Louise Poston!! Love that you're friends. Apparently my version of parasocial relationships is being excited that the people I watch are friends lol...

Wednesday

listening to your newest episode with taylor lorenz and both of you said joe rogan isn't really in the manosphere which is true, but I think he's more of a gateway "manosphere" creator. he has a bit more credibility than an andrew tate type, he's like a diet version of an adin ross.

Erin Sauriol

Sending love from the UK ❤️❤️

Carla Sibson

the apology video fit 💗

poopee doodee

This was excellent listen, agree re identity politics. All the best Matt 🎈

Anna

This made me cry, so beautifully spoken as always 💜

Cecily King

Thank you for everything you do and give.❤️ please take care of yourself too.

Laurie

I really believe Trump will fail everything he promised but I don’t think his followers will understand when it happens. They will continue to support him.

A. Maria

Hey Matt, sending you a big hug. It's impossible to not draw similarities with my country (Argentina). Since past November we've been living a nightmare. The elected president is a just a midget Trump (he's literally stanning him on twitter all day and sharing AI images of himself depicted as a lion and etc). ofc the economy went to shit for absolutely everyone and everything, and i know that 50% percent who voted him literally just wanted more money for groceries and the other 50% voted for him because they hated the other progressive candidates (🙄). Now a year later, the government has started their own 'woke agenda/gender ideology' bullshit and personally i'm so scared for the future of lgbt people (specially trans ppl, getting our hormones has become a privilege that only a few can pay 😞). It's really really hard to not feel hopeless on the future of the whole planet with all these nefarious people on charge. These are really dark times we're going through. I wonder if we get to live to tell the future generations how everything turned around for good.

Matias

Thank you 💙 needed this

that is what is so confusing about republicans is the average republican or conservative voters is they wont stand in what they believe they will lie that they used to be liberal or progressive they will say they arent racist or homophobic when conservatism is staunchly both of those things

Annika

Yeah... Hmm it's a country with a lot of systemic racism, and still deeply imbeded in a colonist, patriarchal, sexist mindset. It can't deal with facing these things so we keep seeing similar things over and over again. And the hate retoric is very strong around Muslims and brown people. And then we can also have free healthcare and schools, and get money when we study, so some things are amazing.. But they have also started so cut down on University study time and targeting the pro-palestine protesters, aresting us and the police are searching house now... So yes, it may seem progressive in some ways. I think our Prime minister gets money from AIPAC... but what do I know, maybe it's because I can't believe someone to behave so cold and humanless towards Palestinian lives, muslim lives. She believes she is pro Jewish people.. But she is a zionist. ❤️🫂

Azadeh Ghavamrad

Thank you for the reply 🫂 It really is very scary. That is so very true, we are stronger together!

Azadeh Ghavamrad

Crying at your praise for Salt Lake City. Being queer and exmormon here is honestly amazing. Whenever I go to a concert without fail the performer will comment on how batshit crazy we are. We have to party hard because the repression runs so deep. We have to be loud because this is the only place in the state where we CAN be loud. We have a bookstore just for lgbt+ books. We have I think around 10 gay bars. And so many queer initiatives and friendly businesses. There are a lot of downsides to being in Utah. But salt lake is like the oasis in the desert.

Lucie Sullivan

Thank you for taking care of yourself and urging other to do the same. I have a lot less despair and a lot more anger this time around.

Val Neil

Anti-fascist Aussie here. I won’t ever stop fighting fascism, no matter where it spawns it’s hideous snout. I will fight for you, I will fight with you. Leftists around the world have your backs.

Lauren Walker

I have been listening to your podcast for over a year but I want to let you know that I took the plunge to subscribe to your paid Patreon right after election day. And I did it for the need of hearing exactly the type of message you’re conveying in this video and that I knew you would make. Thank you. It has helped me so much to hear this, as a migrant bisexual myself.

Teodora Mechea

Lolz cool shout-out to the queer community of Utah. I was raised Mormon and pretty connected to that community

Paul Bird

If you were able to overlook a genocide and cast your vote for Harris, then you shouldn’t be surprised about conservatives overlooking trumps extremism. Both Democrat and republican working class are getting conned. “It’s irrational to believe a system which perpetuates, finances, and promotes terrorism and genocide in Palestine and around the world will somehow deliver on protecting, advancing or expanding democratic rights domestically. A democracy that is willing to finance and defend genocide is no democracy” - Claudia de La Cruz. End your abusive relationship with the Democratic Party which serves capital, not people, join a socialist revolutionary organization

Gio O

I feel comforted after this video. I agree with the fact that Trump offered hope to people who wanted a better economy. People weren't educated enough to research that we are already under Trumps economy and unfortunately they voted for a non-existent ideal. That aside, I hope America learns from his presidency but I will not be surprised if that isn't so.

Chewygyuu

Thank you so much Matt. I thought i might be able to listen without crying...but when you were taking about your friend and her child i finally cried my heart out. I also wanted to write as i am so scared for people in the US now (being from Germany/ on the brink of facism AGAIN). I wrote this on blsky. Hope sharing ist ok? If not i will delete it: I remember how in 2013 there was talk about what would happen if an agency like the NSA were in fascist hands. That moment is now. I can't imagine how great the danger is for those at risk. Please inform yourself as quickly as possible www.eff.org (i hope not to overreach)

Ivy

omg you never need to apologize for the timing of next episode, please take care of yourself take as much time as you need and as the lil gays that live in ur phone we’ll be here whenever u feel up to it 💕

Mason O'Connor

Holy shit I thought Denmark was a progressive country 😭😭😭

This was so beautiful, thank you Matt 💗

Ash Carson Green

Thank you for sharing where you are right now, Matt. I suspect it resonates with all of us. Hard times are coming. I hope we’ll all show up for each other in the ways we know are necessary. Take care of yourself—we need your voice. Glad to be in it with you.

Aaron

thank you for taking the time to make this, matt. i agree that i didn't feel as connected with joy as resistance until this election. the simple act of doing things we love with the people we can't live without... it's the only way we will make it. please take the time you need to step back and we will still be here when you're ready. hugs xo

Samantha Lane

Still taking babies from their indigenous parents seriously?? My god…that’s horrific. I can’t say it’s much better here in the US though, where there are a devastating number of murdered and missing Indigenous women. 💔 I’m sending you love - it’s so scary to be a person with a conscience and a belief in full equity and equality in the world today. It’s so scary to see the hate and violence in the hearts of those who want a world that’s fully of hegemony they get to choose. But there’s more of us who choose love, we just don’t have as much power or money, but we have each other and together we are strong. 🥺🫂❤️‍🩹

Ember

Sending you a hug friend🫂 It’s such a hard time and I have been feeling very similarly. Our community is strong and we are together. We will continue to be, come what may. We will always be here😌 I hope you are surrounded by support and kindness as you navigate this❤️‍🩹

Ember

Thank you so much for this video Matt ❤️‍🩹 I have been panicky, sleepless, and in a state of ‘I need to make all my emergency plans now’ (I live in a mostly red southern swing state). Thank you for giving me permission to focus on/ reminding me about joy. I am so scared and I don’t know how we’ll afford to leave our state if that’s what it comes to. But I do know that I am not going to stop being me. I won’t apologize for it, and I will pursue joy. Thank you for holding space for us here, you’re the real one and I appreciate you and your work and your spirit so much🥹🫂

Ember

Thank you so much for this video ❤️ It gave me the crying release that I’ve been holding back since Wednesday. I will take some time to rest but best believe I am ready to fight, resist and stay alive alongside my queer community. Sincerely, a trans woman in Florida

Hayley

I just wanted to say that you. This was a great comfort after everything. My mental health has been absolutely destroyed by the recent events and i’ve had some passive ideations. But your content has helped me pull through, whether i’m watching it to stay informed or just for fun, it’s always been there for me. So thanks again, your words matter so much!!

Artie

Matt. We love you. It’s so hard right now for everyone. I can’t imagine what you’re going through right now given your platform. I’m a us expat living in Australia. The feeling is palpable here in Australia too. Thinking of you. Genuinely 🩷

Ella 123

Matt you got me in tears. Happy tears. Thanks for the shoutout to Utah. I’m grateful for the community we have here and it’s been cool to see how we’re showing up for each other. There’s a rally planned here soon for standing up for trans rights ❤️

James G

I send you all my love and support <3

Fabien HILDWEIN

Grateful for you, Matt, and for all the work you do. You have gotten me through so much confusion and anger and fear. Please take all the time you need to rest and find joy. Overwhelm is an understatement. But I hope you won’t despair for long. So many generations before us have survived attempts to erase us and I guess it is our turn now to fight back. We owe it to our ancestors and our descendants. And, we have something that toxic individualism wants us to forget: we have community.

Lidiya

Thank you, Matt. This felt like a warm embrace.

Sophia Loureiro

Thank you Matt for this and all your work and I hope you find your joy today and always 🫶

Heide Wenzel

Is this the time and is this the target? He's not responsible for the people trolling in his comments.

Dayle Moon

Thank you so much for this video and everything you do. You’re such a ray of light in this dark world 🥲 Sending lots of love & strength from Europe (we’re fucked here too)!

Marie Barvínková

thank you for this <3

Val

Thank you for this loving video. Thank you for sharing. You are loved!!! Our Prime Minister wrote in a message to the people of Denmark "Trump says things as they are, and so do I, and maybe that is why we had such a good and to the point cooperation/relationship last time he was president, and I will do mine to make it that way again, USA is Denmarks most important ally. We need to learn from Trump and use more of our BNP for the military and weapons" This is so scary. And she is fully in to the Israeli propaganda, of Pro-Palestinians being anti-semitic, she tells us that we dont know our history..... DK has said no to taking chlldren from Gaza, because, as she says, it will be dangerrous and it will enable terror in DK. DK is also, still, taking new borns from Inuit mothers....

Azadeh Ghavamrad

I second this! Would love to support Matt more financially considering how taxing this all is emotionally and physically <3

Pps: I love to know that you and Hannah have found each other ! I've watched her content since March 2018, the month I became a new mom and was in search of soothing content. Hannah and you are both so inspirational in the ways you choose to live your life.

Andrea Poulieva

Ps: your mom sounds awesome, I'm so happy you have each other. As a mom myself, I can only imagine how worried she might be, but also so proud of you. That's special ❤️

Andrea Poulieva

As everyone else, I am in absolute shock. Although I'm European, I've travelled to the US and met many great people, most of whom I've kept in touch with. My midlleschool best friend just moved to NYC after receiving a grant from Columbia to finish his PhD in Philosophy and Gender Studies. He is a gay man and moved with his partner. The shock of Trump's reelection wakes me to the fact that America has changed a lot since I was there last and the Obama years are far behind. A majority of the country is vocally to the right/far right and chose Trump not based on their ignorance, but based on the future they want for this country. This is so scary. As a woman, a mother and an ally, I am sad beyond words and so worried. You guys will be in a Hungary situation for at least 4 years. You won't progress on getting new rights, the work will be to try and damage control, keep MAGA from tearing and dismantling it all, enriching themselves in the proccess. I can't understand the choice to go back to Trump, what I see is people thinking of their wallets, not their neighbours, communities, wives, daughters etc. It was the price of gas and eggs. Now, Trump will go into office taking credit for Biden's economy, and when he slaps the tariffs, it is going to hurt people (most of all those who voted for him). When he starts using the military to round out all the people who have lived there for years and decades but are still undocumented, the latino and hispanic communities who voted for him will hurt too. In a way, a dark way, perhaps, I think that when it starts to happen, and shit gets real, they will maybe bite their fingers, while others (the white cis men) will rejoice and toast their victory. Matt, I think it would be not only totally OK, but maybe beneficial, if you were to unplug and just focus on yourself and your loved ones for however long. None of us would begrudge you that. I love you all, my heart aches and I stand with you. Thinking about Ukrainians and Palestinians being utterly fucked, because they will be abandonned by Trump - that I still can't process, it's just too painful. Keep hope if you can, y'all, but its ok to hurt and grieve 🤍

Andrea Poulieva

Thank you for showing up and sharing your thoughts, this video just reminded me of when I was 17 during the 2016 election and didn't know how to put my thoughts into words while living with my conservative family. Your content helped me learn how to love and respect people who were different and eventually helped me love and accept myself as a queer individual. Your voice matters as do all of ours. We aren't giving up 💪

Nakita Sherman

Thank you so much Matt for sharing your thoughts. After watching this I went back and watched your videos on the AIDS crisis as a reminder of all the shit the queer community have fought through and survived. In the grand scheme of history, this moment is bleak but it's pushing me to think about how I can step up rather than continuing to let others do the work and hoping for protection. Thank you for finding your resilience in this difficult moment and offering both hope and guidance for the rest of us. Take care of yourself first - we're here to support and find our own ways to keep fighting

Em

I’m having such a hard time as an intersex woman. The next generation of people like me being forced to conform their bodies in to a binary system with no scientific backing. Thank you as always for your words of wisdom.

Jacky Mamie

I'm an infectious disease doctor and I've been thinking about how dire things were for the people sitting in my office 40 years ago. Watching patients with HIV die left and right. Reagan doing nothing. Effective therapy was more than a decade away. I'm not in a marginalized group. What kind of coward would I be to flee the country over this election?

Marty F

we love you matt ❤️ keep going everyone. we need to stick together now more than ever.

red halverson

Thank you for being you and doing what you do. X

swiftyfor2024

Thank you, Matt. Your radical empathy and bravery are so inspiring. I just want to say how much I appreciated your willingness to put yourself out there, even made a lot of people lash out, which must have been tough and frustrating.

Anjali

Did the community chat disappear for anyone else? 😢

Kristen Glen

As a 40yo queer lady, I feel you on the tired. So tired. I follow your content because 1. I think you do a fantastic job making a logical and accessible case for liberal issues. and 2. It helps me keep up on issues that are important to the youth side of left as I age and get soft with middle class and middle age. SO! What can I do? I can keep supporting you in this fight :) I upgraded to your top tier. I think you should open up a $20/month tier so those of us that are in a financial position to support you a little more, can. I 100000% agree with you on finding joy where we can. It is resistance at its core. Thank you for that perspective, and I look forward to your wit and candor as we all get through the next 4 years (god willing) together.

Michele McDuff

Thank you for this Matt. It was really good to hear. You are such a shining light in a world of darkness.❤️

We've been here, we will keep being here, we will fight, and most importantly we will take care of and love each other. Everything sucks a LOT but I take comfort in knowing that no one is alone and we have power in solidarity.

We have always been here, and we will always be here. <3

I want to start with a big thank you for all your podcasts and everything you share with us. It matters a lot. Take your time and take care of yourself With these safe (online) places we constructed, we will find a way to go through these years. Let's be kind and support each others. Let's keep finding love, joy and hope within ourselves and in our communities. Sending lots of love and virtual hugs from Europe. Sun will keep rising, rainbow will keep appearing after rain and queer people will always be here

Mathieu

I have just finished watching and I am very moved by your integrity. I could also see your emotional exhaustion before you even mentioned it and I support you in taking care of yourself and finding joy where you can.

Notosfa Boomer

Thank you, Matt 🫶🏻 I hope you’re taking care of yourself as well. The tweet you mentioned about being proud to be queer more than ever in this moment really resonates with me. I want to be there for my community and still experience joy even in these daunting circumstances

Laura

Awww Matt, this is so beautiful ❤️ Thank you for this. As an activist for Palestinian liberation for 10 years, I have two things to say: 1. Activism comes in two forms: short-term and long-term. There is no shame to be had in taking breaks and replenishing the self, as this is a necessary component in both forms of activism, particularly long-term activism. I commend you for seeing the bigger picture and seeing the importance of rest and relaxation. As historian Ilan Pappé said to me this summer, paraphrasing, "The Palestinians, especially those in Gaza, have every right to fall into despair. If they do, I don't blame them: this is their darkest chapter ever, the darkest in this whole century-long history. But we--we must not fall into despair. We must see the horizon of a brighter future and keep running toward it." 2. "Joy is a part of resistance" is my favorite protest sign to bring. I love it. I love being unapologetically chipper, unapologetically colorful, unapologetically queer, unapologetically loving, unapologetically wholesome, unapologetically joyous in my protest and in my life. Obviously, I have rough days, sad days, sometimes weeks, but in the moments I feel joy, I live to have it shine and share it. ✨️ Having thought so deeply about my convictions, thinking through and acknowledging their consequences, knowing that they uphold the humanity of all--I have nothing to fear or feel ashamed of if I'm continuously mindful of these things. My integrity makes me free, and my freedon brings me joy, and I need not put any bounds on that joy. My joy is brilliant and contagious; strangers look at me and wonder how I could be so free, so beautiful, so happy. Sometimes they dare to ask, and I tell them of my convictions, of us queers and all those in the struggle toward liberation, and sometimes my joy is just the ticket they need to join us. It takes work for us to explore, investigate, adopt, refine, deconstruct, and reconstruct our beliefs. Joy is the fruit of that effort. These beliefs and the principles behind them liberate us, and we ought to celebrate that liberation; we have earned that joy. Live lovingly, live colorfully, live joyously--not only does it feel good, but others will want to follow. Choose radical joy ✨️❤️🍉🫂

ikarabout

I’m sure everyone else can agree with me here, but I really fucking needed something like this right now 🤍

Sydney

I'm 2 minutes in and I hear you say you hope this video means something to me. Know that it already does. Thank you.

Notosfa Boomer

We have to focus on physically taking care of each other

Carly Hughes

Ppl are not aware of how things work and are tired of things not working for them and wrongly see Trump as anti establishment. Yeah, “it’s the economy stupid”. People will realize quickly that Trump failed them again —- I hope

Carly Hughes

Please clean up your comment sections on your last few instagram posts. Your followers are attacking Palestinian and Lebanese Americans who didn’t vote for the party that is funding their destruction.

gwenyvere

The I’m sorry is something I feel so hard and I have felt like saying that to everyone

Carly Hughes

You’re so important to the world I’m so glad for your voice in the world. I can hear the pain in your voice and just putting out there we are all here for each other

Carly Hughes

Thank you so much for creating this little safe space for us. Please take all the time you need, sending you all my support from Spain. We'll get through this ❤️

There's no rush for anything dear. Take care of yourself too. Appreciate you endlessly 💚
