I grew up with the Catalan dub, so I quickly assumed this one was just avoiding anything homo because English dubs often did that in the 90s (or tried... did making Michiru and Haruka "cousins" make them less sapphic? π€·ββοΈ). I didn't even think about the "pedo" aspect at the time, but you got a good point. I guess for the original it wasn't too much of an issue: generally, in Japanese fiction works is ok for bad/evil characters to do anything bad (as long as it's not portrayed as "good"). I'm not sure about other places, but Catalan TV did dub and air Dr Slump before Dragon Ball. In fact, it was the reasonable success of that one what encourage them to also do Dragon Ball, which was a huge success... shortly after, many other regional and nation-wide TVs across Spain were airing DB. It's fair to say that the Catalan dub of Dr. Slump opened the gate for anime into Spain.

I have a lot of thoughts on this episode: - Youβre not the only one confused by the weird dialog between General Blue and the little boy. I looked it up and apparently the dub made up the entire βlost little brotherβ thing. In Japanese, General Blue is a pedo and he tried to kiss the little boy because the boy is βhis typeβ. Not exactly great social representation, but it is an old anime. Iβm glad the dub changed this - This episode felt like filler to people outside Japan since we donβt know Dr Slump. It mustβve been good fanservice to Japanese audiences though - I like this crossover because it keeps Dr Slumpβs gag physics. Like Looney Tunes, Arale can break the laws of physics and do anything as a gag. This makes her stronger than anything in DB, ever
