2025-05-13 09:42:36 +0000 UTCTrivia yap-fest (I have a lot of thoughts about this lol): The VA of Frieza here (Linda Young) is the mother of Tienβs VA. As I said a long time ago, I donβt think she was a good cast for Frieza. It also doesnβt help that this dub kinda butchers Friezaβs dialog. In Japanese, heβs a very well-spoken, formal and astute character. This dub strips him of his elegance and charm entirely, and makes him seem like an airhead. I donβt think the high-pitched raspy voice works for Linda. Frieza sounds best when his voice is silky smooth like in Japanese. In Kai, the authentic dialog and mannerisms of the characters are all preserved. Unfortunately, it was hard for Linda to keep up with the authentic Frieza speech patterns while putting on a raspy voice, so they instead replaced her with Chris Ayres for Kai, and his voice and performance is really close to Japanese Frieza. Heβs perfect. He maintained that role in all DB media till 2021, when he unfortunately passed away, and his understudy took over instead. Chris and his understudy sound near identical as Frieza. Most people canβt tell them apart
