2024-03-27 13:01:15 +0000 UTCsadly standard, overwhelmingly bad for game design, and not just for the pay to win aspect. I got into PC games at a time where you could mess around in creative ways, now the status quo is that even in single player full priced games every system is cordoned off to keep player experience as standardised as possible, because it is then easier to sell shit. Certainly a boomer moment but the idea that cosmetic MTs are overall fine for example is kinda crazy to me, as if customisation and visuals were somehow not core to many games.

2023-08-16 12:06:51 +0000 UTCIn fighting games character design is the single most important factor, and development of these characters almost entirely relies on their looks, animation, voicing etc. Using stereotypes is inevitable to some extent because it's a fast and effective way of evoking relatable context around the character. there does have to be some added value to not have the design just be a cheap amalgamation but I won't pretend it's a simple process, because the cast of street fighter on its face could be seen as exactly that. I guess the secret ingredient would be extablishing the right amount of suspension of disbelief perhaps.

I guess GWW are more of a fragmented concept than a setting, which is in part voluntary as I don't want to close off options for later, but also because ultimately I'd like to use those characters in short stories rather than an overarching narrative. Otherwise I do think a lot about developing all kinds of settings, I even had one for Pipe girl and the Futa league at some point but as with all long term endeavours that require discipline, I'm kinda bad =X

2023-08-16 11:15:03 +0000 UTCNever thought about those in terms of favorites, it really depends on the piece of media, there is a wide spectrum of depictions that easily goes from fascinating to extremely lame. I think I like the "uncanny" type so I gravitate towards Junji Ito and Japanese horror a bunch, but you can make something interesting out of any monster if you establish the right atmosphere I even read a random reddit style shapeshifter story a while back that hit all the right spots.

2023-08-16 11:03:24 +0000 UTCI have made a few supershort Doujin (all in the rewards) and of course I aspire to make something more meaty at some point, but a lot gets in the way, long haul projects don't come easy to me, too many opportunities to overwhelm myself with doubt and unfortunately my recent history hasn't helped overcome that. Spark is still there though =)
