"Favorite of all time" questions are too stressful! I would have to narrow it down to categories. for Manga it would be Gally, for trad FB comics it would be Fantasio, for blockbuster movies it would be Alan Grant, Chun for VG women... Outside of a conversational context to narrow things down I am very bad at answering these!

BuruStandin

I have, uncommon but you see'em!

Wide topic =< Post ww2 France set up institutions to promote national art production and defend against the crushing influence of Hollywood. Ever since cinema has been a subsidised field, allowing for creatives to fund movies which wouldn't have otherwise been possible on a rather large scale. As a result there was quite a lot of quality output by respected directors bringing about some international legitimacy. Similar to the US there was a time where there was a pretty strong convergence between audiences and production, up until the 2000s I would say. Everyone liked our classic actors, movies that were considered good and intellectually sound were also successful, there was a robust "contract" between the wider audience and the subsidised industry. I don't have the culture to speak to the artistic uniqueness of French films, I know that our system just allowed for more niche stuff and wilder ideas to actually make it to release. There is no French hollywood as it's not possible to consistently muster hollywood level funding, the market isn't there and historically joint ventures in that department have not been profitable (Valerian =>) It would be too long to mention here but I believe throughout the last few decades French cinema has festered and decayed, mostly because the audience/production convergence no longer exists and political concerns have fostered defiance towards cultural elites'

It's an elegant sport and its origins are quite interesting, but I don't know much more!

Posting your FC piece, that's it =)

I don't know much about the overarching lore of league and I'm not familiar with the reboot (has there been only one? =), Since the game was built around characters I appreciate the contextual lore playing into their personalities and designs and how they are interconnected. I don't particularly enjoy the overall setting and storyline, it seems a bit bland and disjointed with a lot of threads that don't work together. For example why the fuck do "the sun" or "the moon" that Targon factions revere, along with all other minor mythologies around the map carry any weight when fkin primordial Cosmic entities like Aurelion Sol exist? There's no real throughline connecting the cultures of runeterra, it feels very superficial to me =<

Part of me will always think vehicles dynamically transforming into robots is cool, but I have no real emotional attachment to the franchise!

I like MGS a lot, but my absolute favorite is revengeance so it should give you an idea of how I approach the series =) I think the design philosophy throughout the series has been pretty fascinating. The "first" iteration on PS had incredible cinematic vibes for the time, but at the same time it was delightfully "gamey" with its controller switching/ back of the box checking shenanigans. Then there was the over the top earnest B-movie layer to tie everything together, I loved it (watched a friend play through it several times over). The plot meandered even more with each sequel and eventually went way too deep on the cutscenes, t's impossible to take seriously but equally hard not to love. Revengeance was the perfect game for me because it is a legitimately great spectacle action game with every quirk of the series pushed to an legendary degree over a short runtime (but with great replayability).

Never watched a single episode! I was lucky enough to have access to a lot of BBC-produced content in the 90s and early 2k, back then the quality of their TV fiction was unmatched and there was plenty to enjoy between historical series and gritty cop dramas. I never got into the quirkier sci fi stuff (Red Dwarf, Dr Who etc..) however!

BuruStandin

No! beyond South park I haven't followed western cartoons in decades, all I know Is from commissions =)

Watched it a very long time ago and enjoyed it quite a bit, it had 90s sensibilities with an extremely refined style indeed.

Gloutons et Dragons! Delicious in Dungeon in French, with another example of the French obsession with puns. I've been keeping up with Dai Dark and a sweet new edition of Hiroki Endo's EDEN. Also checked out Baki, but I have to admit I'm having a hard time with the style and tone so far (2 volumes in). I am interested in the author's unique anatomy doctrine but I don't think it has come into its own at this stage and I'm not loving the plot enough to keep buying, I'll look into the later volumes =)

Also a pretty reliable trope though it's been done to death and requires more subtelty these days.

BuruStandin

It's a pretty good comedic device and I tend to enjoy it if it doesn't drag out too long!

BuruStandin

No! I live in a smaller city that is not touristy enough for a pickpocketting industry to take hold and I haven't witnessed anything happen personally in general :)

BuruStandin

I don't know! I would assume so as there are more and more non JP manga artists who might have those aspirations, but as long as bigger Japanese publications operate the way they do (insane output requirements, IP ownership etc...) it will remain a rare exception in my opinion. I've had people offer me to do some work on the JP side but I basically concluded I don't have the energy and resources required to adapt to these standards, because I'm OLD.

Do you think japanese magazines will accept more foreign mangaka in the future?
