I took a whole day to think about the design of the tattoo Duncan has on his back.
It's not a simple tattoo, it's a message that Gabriel (his ex) left printed on his skin a few months before leaving.
Fun note: Duncan being a Lasombra (a vampire clan in VtM) has no reflection and does not appear in cameras or photos. So he himself has never seen what Gabriel has tattooed on his back.... when he finds out (and he will) it will be a blow to the heart </ 3
