S&W Bodyguard 2.0 - Compact CCW Perfected?

The S&W Bodyguard 2.0 is a new compact CCW pistol chambered in 380 ACP. It has numerous features that distinguish it from this crowded part of the market, so let's take a look and see if it really is something better.

S&W Bodyguard 2.0 - Compact CCW Perfected?

Comments

Cant CCW in Australia but it's a handy piece to have I imagine. Reminds me of my S&W 39 i owned in 1987/88 when actively shooting in a pistol club mainly IPSC. 9mm was minor and a 'girls' gun but i out scored many a lousy shot with their $2-3K 'race guns' as they were known then.

Nice work

custard the pipecat

Karl, How does it compare to the Walther CCP?

Cecil Stewart

Smith & Wesson Model 31 with .32 wadcutters. I don't need 11, 12, or more rounds. I don't think, however, I would recommend a .32 if a person hasn't been trained or been shooting since a child. Snubbies require a lot of practice to shoot accurately, and a .32 is the most controllable. I've carried an S&W Model 36 snub nosed .38 special and Model 637 in .38 special in the past. Not for everyone, but that's my 2 cents advise.

I too have carried the 1.0 variant. I added better sights and a Galloway trigger to it, but I’m still curious as to how much better the 2.0 is. The double action trigger on the 1.0 is beneficial for second strikes, but strikers seem to dominate these days. Guess I’ll need to pick one!

Another solid, informative video . Thanks

"That's not a gun. This is a gun." Pulls a WWII-era M1 8-inch gun from their waistband... So are the interweb guys over compensating? Good review. This is a viable CCW option, especial for someone who is smaller or wants/need a small CCW option.

Other than capacity, I’d say exactly the same thing about the Glock 42. Small, shootable feels like a real gun. This having the extra capacity and nice sights is a bonus.

Troy Janda

The sights are the weak point for me personally. At 66 yoa with rapidly deteriorating dark vision, I find the sights difficult in anything short of broad daylight. Better night sights are becoming available and I will be purchasing a set as they come back in stock.

I love mine. The original Bodyguard, which I’ve carried for over 10 years, feels like a small gun with all the inherent compromises. As Karl says, the 2.0 handles like a full size firearm, just at half scale. It is far easier to grip than its predecessor and allows you to manage recoil better. I think S&W advanced the state of art of subcompact pistols and many others must agree because I had one helluva time finding one.

Bryan Bradley

Same here!

What are the best things about the one you got? What irritant does it bring with it? Every weapon has some sort of irritant. I like my PPK, but when switching between round-nose and truncated-cone bullets, it sometimes has a FTF and needs to be really clean, even the ramp into the chamber to be reliable, after which it's fine. The Mustang is great, but I wish it had one or two more bullet capacity. Also, I would prefer heel magazine-release on both, rather than the Colt 45 (M1911A) style button that can get easily pressed.

I carry a small weapon when I go out, unless I am going somewhere I cannot carry (work, bank, bar, hospital/Dr's office). I go back and forth between a PPK in ACP380 and a Colt Mustang Pocketlight, also in ACP380. I have only had to draw my weapon once (I was being charged by an aggressive dog; the owners only stepped in to stop it once I drew my weapon and announced I will defend myself), and never had to fire it in anger. I have never felt it was insufficient, and if the dog would have gotten within arm's length, I am confident that a magazine full of ACP380 would have stopped the aggression. Either of them disappears in a pocket or in a holster (the PPK in a shoulder holster under a jacket, the Mustang in a hip-holster, under an untucked shirt or a jacket). I know some people are obsessed with "bigger is always better", but a big weapon (like my High Power) is hard to carry, hard to conceal, tiring, and frankly more gun than I need or want for daily walking about.

Has anyone seen my red stapler? “Kind feels like a staple gun” 🤣 quote of the day

vs 9. relevant would be that vs the sw shield 9 luger. 10-12 vs 7-8.

Guido Schriewer

reading out the velocity from the chronograph after every shot reminded me of the old Paul Harrell videos

Mike Erickson

heck the thing is SMALL. of course that sw is a gooood bit better but I mean just the 380... that old makarov has a tiny edge with the caliber (any "modern" bullets to handload 9 mak..?) in az weather... I'd think ruger sp or maybe a sw J or so.

Guido Schriewer

I bought one. It really is a good shooter
