Parasitic Hive Consciousness

The Spun Mother is a parasitic hive consciousness that devours all organic life, adding it to its collective mind. Entire worlds have fallen prey to this entity. The knowledge and abilities of every being assimilated by the Spun Mother become accessible to the whole organism. The more this interdimensional being consumes, the harder it becomes to stop it. The Spun Mother cannot create on its own; it lacks creativity and the urge to create. Its abilities are solely derived from the civilizations it has engulfed throughout its age-long existence. The Spun Mother is not necessarily just an amorphous organic mass; it can also have autonomous drones. Infected humans, or beings from other planes of existence, can be telepathically part of the collective, while their bodies are ravaged by the all-altering tumors of the Mother.

The Anorii are an ancient civilization with unimaginable technological capabilities. They arrived as travelers and vanished without a trace before the first age, even before the actual reckoning of time. Though the creators disappeared, their artifacts, enormous sealed stations filled with unfathomable wonders, are scattered across the world. Some are buried under millennia, others are enigmatic sites.

On this map, the Spun Mother has invaded one of these Anorii sites, feeding off one of the energy sources deep within. This setting could also be used for sci-fi adventures. Imagine boarding a ghost ship in space and finding this entity attached to the reactor. I (Ben) personally used this very map for an epic boss fight against the Spun Mother in my own private campaign, and everyone found it wonderfully revolting. After the battle within the facility was won, the reactor shattered, creating a rift in space and time that hurled the facility and all its creatures into the Shadow Span, a plane between planes. On one of the floating debris, Phase 2 began against the interdimensional aspect of the Spun Mother. In my story, I described it as them knocking the anchor hook out of the world, and now they must destroy the loose anchor before it finds another way into our plane. The Spun Mother cannot truly be defeated; she is far too immense for that. However, one can show her that this is not a realm of easy prey.I'm eager to see how you will use it. =)
