It is totally of my own personal interest only to hope that you network more, because I still want to see Gunnerkrigg turned into an animated cartoon ;_;

I don't think you really need to promote anymore, your comic is famous enough that a lot of relevant people will have heard of you. Being extroverted on the internet can be a double edged sword, just look at all the famous people who say something stupid and then get a witch hunt. If I were you, I wouldn't change the pattern now. Being a forward marketer is more of a necessary tool for those who haven't yet been seen. I suppose it depends what you want, if you are happy with patreon and doing gunnerkrigg then it should be allright, but if you want to expand or do big commissions maybe you should market directly to the kind of thing you do want. That could mean contacting individual people though, doesn't have to be opinionating on twitter.

Panel 1) Sure you do, and it's fine, and worrying if it's self sabotaging is self sabotaging.
Panel 2) So? You're what you are, it also comes with its bonuses, which is why you're also prolly better known to people in your line of work than 99.999% of your audience, most of whom probably make more personal use of social media than you do. Talent is less common than the practice of chattering online. If you want to be known, differentiators are how you get known.
Panel 3) If only you had some kind of established online offering that regularly drew metric crap-tons of readers, maybe that'd help clue everyone in. ;)
Social media isn't anything one should ever force. Letting your work do so much of the speaking for you in that regard... well, it's working out for you, isn't it? Can't say I'd be inclined to change it, were I in your shoes.

Luckily word of mouth is also a big factor. If someone interested in webcomics is browsing the web, chances are they will hear of Gunnerkrigg Court sooner or later. Don't force yourself into advertising your work in ways your are not comfortable with, you seem to be doing just fine publicity-wise (or at least that is the impression I've been getting).

Tread lightly on politics and religion (if at all) and you should be fine.

I love seeing any activity from you on Twitter, but also understand how easy it is to second-guess yourself when posting to social media (I probably delete half of the stuff I post on FB/Twitter, hah). It's tough!
