It seems to me that when Zidane, Figo, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Del Piero, Nedved, and the rest of that era of players retired, players became so much more generic. The geniuses never really emerged to replace them, with two obvious exceptions in Messi and C. Ronaldo...
