Concerning the Buffyverse watch order, here is my personal view on it. Going with air dates is perfectly fine for Buffy S4/ Angel S1 and Buffy S5/ Angel S2, always watching Buffy first. Both shows were on the same channel at that time and it's how it was made to be watched. The same thing applies for Buffy S6/ Angel S3 but this time, it's better to do Angel first and then Buffy. For Buffy S7/ Angel S4, air dates is clearly not working anymore as it will create discrepancies during the watch (some events will happen in a show while the action in the other show is clearly set before those events happened. Yeah I know it is not very clear but I don't want to be spoilery). A watch order will be needed for those two seasons (I think the two major ones that other comments have recommended are both fine). I am really glad you are doing Severance. It is IMO the best show currently on air. For another show (in a few years maybe), I recommend two excellent sci-fi shows: Farscape and The Expanse. Farscape is an old show (same time as BTVS) and I often describe it as Buffy in space. It focuses heavily on amazing character writing and is perfect in both comedy and darker episodes (or in the same episode sometimes). But it is not well-known so maybe it will not appeal to a lot of people (even though the fanbase is quite exceptional). Just maybe watch it in your own time one day for your own entertainment... The Expanse is IMO not only the best sci-fi show ever but the best show ever period. The world building and the characters are the most complex but written in an expert way. It is based on a series of books and the authors were heavily implicated on the show. It is worth a reaction because there is a lot of things to analyse on this show. It is also a show with a huge fanbase, so reactions to it are always welcome on Patreon or Youtube. I hope you will consider it someday but you will do as it pleases you because I am here for your inputs and your personality and I will watch any show (that I liked of course) you will propose here. Take care of yourself and sorry for the long comment...

Concerning the watch order for Buffy and Angel, here is my personal take on that: I think it is perfectly OK to do one Buffy, one Angel episode as they originally aired for Buffy S4/ Angel S1 and Buffy S5/ Angel S2 (always Buffy first) because both shows were on the same channel at that time and it works well. For Buffy S6/ Angel S3, it will also work but I think it's better to do Angel first then Buffy. Byffy S7/ Angel S4

The fan suggested Watch Orders are great for keeping narrative and themes together. Also, Angel and Buffy shows often had a thematic synergy once they were both airing concurrently. There are enough crossovers that I think using one of the Watch Orders are worth it to get the flow of the emotional journeys right. While theoretically the air dates were designed to do the same, there were network airing issues back in the day that sometimes messed that up. I will say that the Joss Whedon Blogspot Watch Order is the way to go but has one MAJOR mistake that I would change: Buffy S5E14 should ABSOLUTELY be watched BEFORE Angel S2E13. Other than that, I think the episodes are ordered close to the standard Buffy/Angel order to minimize gaps on one show or the other. The SlayAlive Order is fun for a rewatch but isn't great for 1st time reactors who release weekly. It bundles stories so that one show or the other has a lot of down time which will negatively impact you and your viewers' experiences. The SlayAlive Order is only good for reactors who plan to release Buffyverse eps daily or almost daily, imo. That way a 4-5 week gap is only 4-5 days and audience retention isn't impacted. Since you are not doing daily uploads for your channel, the Blogspot Watch Order is better. Just keep top of mind that one mistake when you get to those seasons and you should be good. Might be smart to copy the watch order into your own document and swap those 2 episodes yourself so you don't forget by the time you get to it.

Yep, I was VERY annoyed when I watched them in that order because of this guide. It's a major mistake and I can't think of a single good reason to watch them in the wrong order. It completely ruined the experience of watching those episodes.

Lucy

I am thinking early season 6 /ATS season 3 for exemple if you want to line up you need to watch the first 3 angels episodes before the Buffy first 2. So you can’t really alternate that way. There are others that feel nicer to watch non alternated on a story view point but that’s the big one.

Mahaut

Also, just to add. I cannot get behind the Blogspot watch order. There are at least 1 instance of things in "red" (absolute must watch in this order) that I cannot get behind. And I mean... I'm 100% certain that a majority of the fandom would riot at the order those episodes are in. I'm completely bewildered. And they are VERY important episodes. I reeeeally recommend to watch Buffy first, if you have to watch one before the other.

Love this. And yes. Looking forward to it all. --- With Angel and Buffy, for some of it to make sense, you need to follow the watch order. But you can get away with Angel, Buffy, Angel, Buffy a lot. There are just some episodes you need to see of Buffy before specific episodes of Angel and vice versa, but there are websites that have those episodes marked. For instance, on this website: https://josswhedon.blogspot.com/2012/04/buffy-and-angel-episode-viewing-order.html If you scroll to the bottom, the episodes in red - order matters. Otherwise, order doesn't really matter.

Lucy - STRONGLY AGREE. Angel's episode makes SO much more sense and is more hard-hitting if you watch Buffy first. There's just no argument whatsoever against watching the other way around, and I will fight anyone about it lol I think if Tyler wants to watch by alternating episodes, watching Buffy first should solve any issues with crossovers or at least related to each other. Darla (in red) should NOT come before Fool for Love.

Jennifer McIntyre

So excited you are watching Severance! I’ve usually preferred watching Buffy and Angel via a watch guide. Just makes the story that much richer.

Caitie Cornelius

Resubscribed just to reiterate this vote because it's that important. :) Watch Order Guide is preferable for Buffy/Angel. As another Patreon member said, the guide here (https://josswhedon.blogspot.com/2012/04/buffy-and-angel-episode-viewing-order.html?m=1) has done an excellent job of separating out episodes that don't matter much from an order perspective in black, while highlighting episodes in red that you must be up to in one show before watching the next red in the other show. I grant that knowing that fact is on the edge of spoilery, but that's just how important a watch order is, where even that is the lesser of two evils. :)

In my experience, streaming services only have HD Buffy. I bought a digital copy from Microsoft that doesn’t include the color remaster but does switch the ratio to full screen after season 3. Your only option these days might be to buy the old school dvd box sets from eBay, etc - the individual thick boys that unfold, not today’s logically compact ones. 😤😂

Shannon

I agree with the masses - air date is totally fine. Exceptions can be made for two-parters but even then, like someone said, we survived the original airing watching like that. 😂 Glad you’re doing Angel - I prefer Buffy, but Angel has a lot of complex content you’ll love.

Shannon

Watching them alternately always does match up. I have no idea why people tell reactors this, when it simply isn’t true. The air order is the way it was meant to be watched; all you do is alternate the shows. Buffy first, then Angel. Starting with season 6 of Buffy, it’s instead Angel first, and then Buffy. We were all able to successfully watch these shows before people online started randomly posting these guides a couple of years ago (which, it should be noted, vary).

Will Sofer

Oh please watch Buffy and Angel according to a proper guide, not the airing dates, it doesn’t always match up! It would really be a much better experience! Not every episodes aired back to back either, sometimes they don’t line up perfectly.

Mahaut

I used this watch order a few years back when I rewatched both shows for the first time in years, and it was fine with one glaring exception - I strongly disagree with the order they put 113 and 114 in! Slay Alive's order (the original order those two episodes were shown in) makes so much more sense.

Lucy

Very excited for Severance (and Succession when it comes!) My vote is for the Slay Alive watch order (http://slayalive.com/showthread.php/3924-The-Buffy-Angel-watching-guide?p=129360&viewfull=1#post129360) but honestly alternating is usually fine, barring two-parter episodes and a few exceptions that need to be watched in a specific order.

Lucy

Very excited for Severance!! As for Buffy/Angel, I vote for just alternating as they aired except for MAYBE times where one of the shows has a two-parter--but even that's no big deal if it's simpler to keep to the alternating schedule. I'll be watching either way!

Minna

my vote for watch order is as it aired, alternating between buffy and angel. i'm very much a puritan when it comes to the buffyverse so watching it how people did in the 90s will always be my preference. there are also multiple different orders depending on whose list you choose so there's no solidly agreed upon order in the fandom (besides the one that joss himself chose, alternating between) plus like you said it'll be best for ppl paying for early access that only watch buffy

esme

Severance is a great choice! And I'm SO glad you're taking on Angel! As far as watch order, the watch order most people use is the Slay Alive watch order. But it's quite complicated and doesn't do well for the format you would like to use (which I'm totally on board with!). There isn't technically anything wrong with watching in order of airing, but I would generally always watch Buffy before Angel. Buffy generally aired first, so that should help with crossovers. Just be aware that in later seasons, Buffy switched networks so the air order wasn't quite the same after that. So there might be something later that breaks the mold.

Jennifer McIntyre

I started watching your content for Buffy, and i wasn't really into TGP or BCS. I am very excited for the new shows!

Kesa

I second this watch order recommendation :) For the most part, alternating between the two is fine, but there are some important exceptions

Jordan McLaren

Woof! I was scared there for a split second, thinking you'd stop your channel. I think alternating Buffy and Angel episodes is probably the less complicated way, and this way we also won't be like 2 months without a Buffy episode at times :'))) Very excited for the future!

Anne

Oh this is great! Buffy is pretty much my all time favorite show alongside Breaking Bad and The Wire. Succession is great too. And Severance is basically my favorite currently airing show. It's extraordinary. I'm so excited to see those reactions - you can basically do a dissertation of commentary after each episode. (And somehow, despite being subscribed for a year, I completely missed that you reacted to Hill House, which is another one of my favorite shows. I'm going to immediately go and watch those now)

Land Howard Johnston

Jules Reacts has mostly done alternating Buffy/Angel episodes (with a few exceptions where needed) and that's been fine. But either way works for me, honestly.

Neil Bullock

Very excited about this. I enjoy your movie commentaries so I'm excited to see those. For Buffy and Angel...I'd just do the way they aired...it doesn't need to be complicated. But I'll watch it no matter what you decide.

Needles Hooks and Books

So, so glad you’re doing Severance! It’s a great show. As for the Buffy/Angel watch order, my preference is over at https://josswhedon.blogspot.com/2012/04/buffy-and-angel-episode-viewing-order.html?m=1 There’s a bit of wiggle room if you use that site. It shows the necessary ones in red and the rest in black so you can play with the order a bit, because otherwise it has you watching two or three episodes of the same show in a row.

that 9 fingered lesbian

I literally clapped and cheered when you said Severance. Let's GOOO!!

Taya

YESSSS Severance! And more Buffy of course! Excited to see your channel continue to develop!
