i have come to appreciate s4 the more time goes on. it is definitely a transition season and it often gets the short end of the stick but the reality is this is one of the best shows ever. even a season that's perhaps not in the top 3 for the show is still a damn good season and like every season, because of that caliber, it has some of my favorite episodes of the whole show scattered throughout

This episode is laid out really well and I think takes a really tall order of laying the basis of these themes and ideas whilst also allowing the audience to adjust to the move along with our characters. A lot of ‘teen’ shows really flop in the transitions to college stage. Or at least become less loveable or seem to lose the essence of the show laid down in high school seasons. However a lot of that is because shows try so hard to give the audience what they think they want, rather than telling the audience an honest story about that life stage. Buffy never fails to ground this absolutely bizarre supernatural fantastical dramedy in reality by telling real stories about characters that feel like ‘real’ people. I’m really excited to see your take on this season as it goes on. Season 4 makes me laugh more than any other season.

(I was still in college when I first got into Buffy and I thought season 4 was my least favorite.) But having taken a bit of long break from college, this feels different and I'm relating to that reset button more. It seems like a very natural and realistic transition for all the Scoobies. And you made the comment on identity, right. It isn't monolithic. It's fluid. That reset button gets hit several times in our lives as we move through the chapters of our lives. I'm super excited for the next episode. Can't wait.
