Oh a really random fact about the Angel theme song is itโ€™s actually in some ways very similar to the the Buffy one. The Buffy theme is more of a motif and the Angel theme is longer and a melody. But they are both written in the same key and basically begin with the same 4 notes then the Angel theme evolves into a longer melody. It was created from the base of Buffys theme to symbolise the shared mission and then extended and adapted to indicate the show is an extension of the Buffy verse and obviously entirely different in tempo and tone to really represent the shows own feel. Iโ€™ve always loved both themes but I didnโ€™t realise these similarities at all until a few years ago. Angels theme is so beautiful and almost sad. I always thought it was really very true to his characters personality and arc. Music is actually extremely important to both shows. The super talented Christoph Beck was hugely influential to Buffyโ€™s feel (Winning 1 Emmy for the score on season 2s Becoming). He composed most of the score from seasons 2-4. He also worked with Robert Kral on the first season of Angel then Kral was the primary composer for the remainder of the Angel series. Also typically songs used on episodes are very directly linked to the theme of the episode or a specific character journey that episode. I always love looking up the song lyrics as they are often really interesting and in some cases they actually give clues to impending episode/character arcs or the messages the writers are trying to get across.

Eh, the show isn't perfect but neither are the books, we all know the slog and Robert Jordan couldn't write women to save his life. In fact every single Wheel of Time fan I've ever met has a laundry list of complaints about the books. The writers of the show are in the unfortunate position to streamline the story into a version that can be told in 8 seasons (and that's the best case scenario), they also expected to get 10 episodes for season one and where then told to do it in 8, due to the pandemic they lost one of their main actors for the last two episodes of season one, they lost access to the location they had panned to use for the blight and couldn't a lot of extras anymore due to pandemic restrictions. It's easy to criticize the show from our living rooms but we don't have to face the realities of a tv production where some decisions are dictated by things like budget, scheduling, actor availability, access to locations etc. instead of simply creativity. Anyway, despite the bumpy start the show isn't bad, season 2 was mostly good and season 3 is really good and they nailed Rhuidean, if you watch nothing else at least watch season 3 episode 4. It's as close to perfect as an adaptation can get.

I had to pause the video to come here and comment that you are SO RIGHT about the Wheel of Time books versus show. Itโ€™s almost like the writers of the show were deliberately trying to antagonize the book fans lol.

I loved Kate and they could do so much more with her character
