You pretty much nailed the themes in this episode. I think ATS is not very subtle in these first episodes but I don't really mind. I still love shows that use supernatural elements to talk about real issues in our society. Plus the show is just beginning and needs to find its style (unfortunately these awful transitions remained a part of its style).
Still, I really like the conversation between Angel and Kate. It is important IMO that a woman explains to Angel why victims of stalkers must rebel because it doesn't end with the stalker being stopped (and clearly victims of stalkers are more often women than men) . I was victim of school harassment for years and I had nightmares about it years after it was over. I would have loved someone to protect me then but also someone who could have explained me what I could do to help myself get over it.
Concerning the idea that we are using only 20% of our brain, it is one of the oldest false belief in biology. It originated at the beginning of the 20th century when scientists discovered that the human brain was composed of about 20% of neurons. Neurons being the cells where information is coded in our brain, the misconception that we use only 20% of our brain capacities started to spread. Of course it is false because the other types of cells in the brain (such as glial cells) provide support to neurons and modify their activity.
It is also due to the fact that we often hear on the news that whatever study shows that one part or another part of the brain is activated under certain circonstances. But, all the parts of our brains are always active, just not at the same intensity. It is not that some parts are inactive and some are active, it is that some parts are more active than others during certain activities for example.
And, by the way, your hair looks great.
