Yeah this episode is one of the greats for loads of reasons. One of the reasons Joss did this episode was because there was a lot of talk about the reason Buffy was so successful was because of the dialogue it was known for, suggesting the show was not more than one of it’s known strengths. Joss being the arrogant bugger he is decided well, we will show you, and decided to write an episode with more than half of it with no dialogue. Then almost comically this was the only episode to actually be nominated for a writing Emmy…… Basically if someone told him they couldn’t do something he went ahead and did it. The network was really hesitant about the episode and were really concerned it would not work, but they did it anyway and it is one of the most highly critically acclaimed episode of the series, purely because of the way it played with various elements of film in the storytelling. The score is absolutely phenomenal (again the work of Christoff Beck), the monster design one of the best of the series and all around the episode was just so well done by the cast crew and cast f course the directing. The cast said it was actually extremely difficult to actually film as although there was limited lines to learn, they needed to be so spot on with timing and all their other acting skills to execute. So it was actually a lot harder than a typical episode to film. Interestingly this episode actually also did a lot to move the plot forward also. The Buffy/Riley relationship progression and reveal, Xander and Anyas relationship progressing, plus a new character introduction. Anyways! So glad you liked it and that you have met Tara. I adore her character. And in general she is extremely well liked in the fandom. So yeah this is one of those episodes I the series where they really do something left of field and shake up the entire way the episode is made. They will do this again a few more times, so enjoy the ride.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a buffy fan that doesn't have this episode in their top 10 list, possibly even top 5 for most. Fun fact: I remember reading that this episode was inspired by a nightmare Joss had, and useless fact: I personally vividly remember a terrifying nightmare I had a as a kid where i was stuck in place outside my classroom, screaming for help but creating no sound as a monster slowly gained on me - makes me wonder if this is a common dream people have, like flying or losing teeth. That aside, the gentlemen are by far the #1 scariest "monster of the week" for Buffy, hands down.
