Vehicle Situation Update!

I found out the noise in my truck is the exhaust pipe. So need to look into that...

And the Toyota dealership only has one Diesel truck available and it has more miles than we are hoping for so still looking around for now...

Well let me know if I can help in any way. The first night is scary but after that you start feeling really empowered. I do a lot of free/dispursed camping...Roger prefers campgrounds with hookups. I do all the planning & navigating and I fix/build everything. What I can't do, Roger hires someone to fix LOL. I'd suggest taking it somewhere close to test things out and help you feel more comfortable. Especially since you started out badly.

I hope I gain the confidence to take it on solo trips! Neither of us ever truly got the hang of everything because nothing ever worked properly so I left it pretty intimidated on feeling like I couldn’t work anything!

BirdTricks

LOL I'm so used to it I don't notice anymore LOL. I'm crossing my fingers your van is fixed soon. Once you do get it, I hope you love it. I usually do 2-3 solo trips each year (going on a 3 week solo trip soon), then we are going on an 8000 mile trip back east. It's hard to stay home for the winter so I'm really itchin' to get moving. LOL

Sorry for misspelling your name, I’m using voice to text and apparently it likes another way of spelling. It feels like karma since everyone misspells my name lol. 😆

BirdTricks

Thanks Janine! We actually just got word that it is being inspected so I’m hopeful it will be working in the next month or two. But they still haven’t given us any ETA.

Just catching up on posts...I'm so sad to hear you are having problems with your Ram. We have one and love it. I have heard that they have transmission issues. Ours is used with over 100k miles on it. We bought it used so not sure if it had a tranny replacement at some point but we've put on 11k+ miles & had it checked out before we bought it. Pretty much spoils you on the brand tho. Winnebago Ekko on a Ford chassis, is a 24 ft with AWD and a pop-top. R&R has at least 1....we just looked at it last weekend LOL. It's probably more than the PM. You'd think they'd work with you. Many put new shocks and a 2" lift on them for better off-road. All RVs are going to have issues but not like yours have had. So sorry to hear your vanlife dream went up in smoke.

Janene Gscuba

Yes, we've tried these avenues and Dodge basically told us we have to take it up with R&R (the dealer who sold it to us) and R&R is basically like "it wasn't an official recall so we didn't know about it til it happened like you" and their version of "making it right" is offering a trade but they aren't giving us what we even paid for ours so we are already on a loss to start out and it will cost us to do a trade and they don't trade down so it's not like we can be like, ok, forget this van thing and give us a camper for our truck instead and get money back. They won't do that (I tried). It really seems like the trade will only benefit them financially and it will only benefit us by getting us in something immediately but the thing is... a trade for something similar won't have the lift kit we paid $10k cash for. And if we get into something that doesn't need a lift kit and is already 4WD or AWD or 4x4 then it's wayyyy more expensive. Right now our lawyer is suggesting we draft a letter to the owner of R&R and ask if they'd just cover our monthly payment until the van is in working condition again. So we are waiting on his letter to see what he comes up with...

I agree with writing a letter to the van dealer. In addition to summarizing the details and dates of the problem with your van, you should try to be specific about what you want them to do to remedy the situation to your satisfaction. Whether that is reducing the price of a trade in, providing a comparable loaner rv until your van is drivable, refunding your full purchase price so you are free to look for something new, and/or paying addition costs for loss of use..... You are incurring additional costs due to "loss of use" of this rv and this affects your ability to do business, plus you are having to pay for hotels and rental properties since you cant stay in your van. It seems to me that they owe compensation for that kind of stuff. I would let them know that you really don't want to be unreasonable, but unless this situation is remedied in some way to get you back on the road, you will have to make a report to the Better Business Bureau and post reviews on social media. Be polite and respectful, but also firm. Im not a lawyer, but I have written more than my share of these kinds of letters and I am usually able to come up with a reasonable resolution. I cant think how it could hurt to try as long as your letter isnt a ranting tyrade, which might make them want to dig in their heals. Anyways sorry for the long comment, but I hope my input is at least a little helpful. Love you guys. Good luck!!

haha Monet is pretty tolerant of giving Princess Prim her space...

BirdTricks

It would need to be a new loan because of it being a totally different vehicle and amount... but I really don't think we are going to go that route. Although it would get us into a vehicle immediately, it would ultimately cost us way more.

BirdTricks

I think if the van falls under replacement I don’t think they do a new loan. I think they would just send the new information to the bank but I would ask the dealership

How is Monet not jealous 😆 when you were paying prim

I’m looking to go into a Cummins in the next year. I want a 3/4 ton. It’ll pull anything & the cabs are impressively large for toting my dogs, birds etc. + pulling my horse trailer & hopefully someday birdtrailer if I can’t figure out how to make a horse trailer do both!

KayLa Forret-Munoz

Vehicle troubles are the worst! You are so at the mercy of their honesty.

Wendy Cottingham

He said Cummins is good , comes in Dodge and he didn’t buy that because they had another bunch or recalls on transmission for 21,22,23 years. He went with the GMC. He said he likes his Dodge but didn’t get another because of their continued transmission issues. So maybe check depending on year. He has the GMC & it pulls our large 5 th wheel really nicely (when the rv is out of the shop). Hope that helps.

CGrugs

I’ll track him down and see what he says about diesel.

CGrugs

Definitely write letters and email. Send regular and certified to track. There’s a federal lemon law also but since yours is a van if your state has lemon law for vehicles that helps. Idk why everything has to be so difficult!

CGrugs

My neighbor recommended a Cummins 3/4 ton, let me know your thoughts on that! Right now our lawyer is recommending to write a letter to the owner of the place we bought the van from and see if we can get any traction that way.

BirdTricks

hahaha!

My hubby Dave did a lot of research regarding the different diesel truck options out there if that could be helpful. Let me know and Dave can touch base with Dave. And I feel your pain about the van. Our RV is still in the shop after months and still not fixed. I’m doing my own research about that and options going forward if you need help with that. Our state doesn’t have lemon laws for RV so have to go another route for that.

CGrugs

Sounds incredibly frustrating! I’d offer you guys transportation out to the flight location, but after last trip I’m not sure you trust my driving. ;)
