2021-09-26 19:34:20 +0000 UTCThis was the first time up into this point that we’ve seen Bansai fight like that, so had no clue he fought with those tactics with the strings 👀
2021-01-09 01:37:14 +0000 UTCThere was a lot of symbolism concerning strings and bonds and threads in the dialogue, but there was also the fact that Bansai uses strings in combat and the fact that Ito means thread.

2021-01-09 01:22:42 +0000 UTCAnd the mitsuba arc was only 2 episodes, but they still nailed it 👌🏽
2021-01-08 21:44:01 +0000 UTCGranted it was less dramatic, the fact there was some IRL references to this crisis and an actual internal conflict is crazy lol
2021-01-08 21:42:18 +0000 UTCOh and as of 105, my arc order is: 1. Mitsuba 2. Shinsengumi Crisis 3. Yagyu 4. Benizakura 5. Fuyo/Tama

2021-01-08 20:51:05 +0000 UTCInfodump: Overall/Arc specific: -Ito Kamotarou is based on Ito Kashitaro -Ito Kashitaro was one of the most intelligent members of the Shinsengumi, and beloved by Kondo for this reason. Eventually, irreconcilable political differences caused Ito and his followers to separate and form their own group: The “Goryo Eji.” Unlike the majority of the Shinsengumi, Ito and his followers had very anti-shogun political views and split after Ito’s ideas to changes the Shinsengumi’s goal from “protect the shogun and his ideals” to something more apolitical were rejected. -IRL, the “Shinsengumi Crisis” was much less dramatic. A few members of the Shinsengumi had joined the Goryo Eji as spies for the Shinsengumi, as Hijikata was distrustful of Ito, and reported that he was planning to assassinate Kondo. In response, Ito was ambushed by the Shinsengumi when walking home one night, in a fight so one-sided you might as well just call it a murder. -The surviving members of the Goryo Eji would go on to join anti-shogun rebels (like the Kihetai). Episode 101: -The sword names at the beginning of episode 101 like “Osafune” and “Kotetsu” were the actual names of Yamazaki’s, Sougo’s, etc, swords, just with tech-suffixes like “EX” or “Mark 2” added on. -Episode 101 is the first (but not last) episode of Gintama where none of the members of Odd Jobs (Gin, Shinpachi, Kagura) appear outside of the the OP and ED. Episode 102: -The show on which Shinpachi and Toushirou participated in was called 'Otaku Summit' hosted on the 朝まで生討論! 'Live discussion until morning' show - this is a reference to popular 朝まで生テレビ! asa made nama terebi 'Live TV telecast until morning!' started in 1987 and frequently discusses social-science issues until the wee hours. -Tosshi’s use of “-Shi” and “De-Gozaru” are old, extremely formal versions of -“San” and “To be,” respectively. -The blatant Sailor Moon parodies -Famous historical Chinese Generals mentioned by Itou: 李牧 Li Mu (Japanese 'Ri Bouku') of 赵国 Zhao Kingdom, eventually killed by his own king. He is 1 of the 4 Great Generals of the Warring States Period, and 岳飛 Yue Fei (Japanese 'Gaku Bi') of 南宋 Nan Song Dynasty, was ordered by his king to kill himself, which he did. He is acknowledged as 1 of the foremost patriots of China then and now. The irony of Ito comparing himself to the above is that the 2 great generals were well known for their loyalty to their kings and their country. -“Muramasa” was actually the name of an infamous swordsmith. His swords were thought to be cursed because the famous people who wielded them always met with gruesome ends. Episodes 103-105: -nothing i haven’t already touched on except more references to Sailor Moon, other magical girl series, DBZ, and Berserk.
